Rail and Baluster with Beveled End

Abstract

A combination of a rail and a baluster with the baluster with beveled end having, near one or both ends of the baluster, the perimeter of the baluster proceed increasingly more inward as such end of the baluster is approached. There is some indentation at all points along the perimeter, although such indentation need not necessarily be uniform. In addition to the rail, also termed a lower rail, there is preferably a second rail, also termed an upper rail or hand rail.

I claim: 
     
         1 . An improved combination of a rail and baluster installed in the rail with the rail having a cavity, with an edge or edges, to accept the baluster and with the baluster having having a perimeter, an upper end with a cross-sectional shape, a lower end with a cross-sectional shape, and a longitudinal axis, with the improvement consisting of:
 the baluster, near the lower end of the baluster, being beveled, by indentation, at every point along the perimeter of the baluster, thereby creating a slanted surface adjacent to the lower end of the baluster; and   no part of said baluster that enters said rail extends beyond any edge of the cavity in said rail.   
     
     
         2 . The improved combination of a rail and a baluster installed in the rail as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a second rail having a cavity to accept the upper end of the baluster; and, wherein:   the baluster, near the upper end of the baluster, is beveled, by indentation, at every point along the perimeter of the baluster, thereby creating a slanted surface adjacent to the upper end of the baluster; and   no part of said baluster that enters said second rail extends beyond any edge of the cavity in said second rail.
