Abstract
Surgical suture instrument for the muscular-skeletal system and the surgical technique used by same. A surgical suture system includes an instrument providing for the suture of muscular-skeletal system tissues by the use of blades which go from a withdrawn position to a position for the incision of the tissue to be sutured. The blades carry the suture, which is attached to the tissue by the incision of the blades, in response to a drive force aimed longitudinally from back to front, towards the surgical field. The instrument and the surgical technique allow for single or continuous stitching of suture on all tissue types. Its use in bone suture is particularly surprising, making it possible to join bones, implants, grafts, chondrocyte membranes, flaps, tendons, cartilage, etc. The surgical technique for which the surgical suture instrument is used can be applied in open surgery and in arthroscopy.
Claims

A surgical suture instrument, comprising: an external element; an internal element received in the external element and which can move lengthways inside the external element; and at least one blade carried by the internal element, the at least one blade positioned proximate an end of the surgical suture instrument which is closest to an operation field during use of the surgical suture instrument, the external element having two holes through which a suture is threaded, and the blades having at least two sharp cutting edges and an unsharpened groove between the cutting edges to receive the suture.
2 . The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein the surgical suture instrument has a single blade, the single blade positioned at an end of the internal element and is operable to provide a continuous multi-stitch suture.
3 . The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein the surgical suture instrument has two blades positioned at an end of the internal element and is operable to provide a single stitch suture.
4 . The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein a structure limits rotational movement of the internal element inside the external element.

The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 4 wherein the external element has a grove and the internal element has a hole that receives a screw, which screw abuts through the groove in the external element and thereby limits the rotational movement of the internal element with respect to the external element.

The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein the external element has hole at the end closest to the operation field when in use, the hole having a mixed profile, the mixed profile including a circular portion to allow the passage of the thread and lengthways portion adapted to a profile of the at least one blade.

The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein an opposite end of the internal element to an end where the at least one blade is positioned is configured to be attached to a hammer or driving mechanism, whether manual, mechanical, electric or hydraulic, which moves the internal element forwards and backwards inside the external element, so that when the at least one blade hits against tissue, the at least one blade sutures the tissue with the suture threaded through the at least one blade.
8 . The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising a stop structure which limits a forward lengthways movement of the at least one blade from a front end of the external element in the direction of the operating zone.

The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 8 wherein the stop structure which limits the forward lengthways movement of the at least one blade includes at least one nut which is threadedly received by a threaded end of the internal structure and acts as a stop that engages a back end of the external element.
10 . The surgical suture instrument in accordance with claim 1 wherein the external element has at least one needle that extends from an end thereof.
