Claims
Abstract
Techniques are provided for presenting a route in a manner that emphasizes the route and provides context information. For example, a vivid color or vivid colors may be used to display the route, and pastel colors or other desaturated colors may be used for non-route context information. This may result in a map in which the vivid colors of the route stand out over the faded style of the non-route context information to emphasize the route. In this manner, the map may both emphasize the route and provide context information for the route.
Claims

receiving a request related to rendering of a map; determining at least one route to be included in the map, a map region; identifying based on the identified map region, first and second elements that are apart from the route; accessing a database, the database including each of primary and secondary display attributes for each of the first and second elements; and enabling, based on information accessed from within the database, a map to be rendered and including part or all of the determined route and map region, the map including each of the first element and the second element with the primary display attribute being rendered for the first element and the secondary display attribute being rendered for the second element.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map includes including the origin location and the destination location in the map.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map includes including only one of the origin location or the destination location in the map.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map includes including neither the origin location nor the destination location in the map.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map includes including a highlighted style as the first presentation style and a faded style as the second presentation style in the map.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map includes including a variable road network map showing finer detail for geographic features near the route and less detail for geographic features farther from the route in the map.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein enabling access comprises enabling access to the map by a display screen associated with the user system.
8 . The method of claim 1 wherein enabling access comprises enabling access to the map by a printer associated with the user system.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein enabling access comprises enabling access to the map by a dashboard display screen associated with a vehicle.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein generating the map comprises causing the map to include at least one point of interest.
11 . The method of claim 1 further comprising generating narrative text associated with the route and communicating the narrative text to a user system for presentation on a display associated with the user system.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein the route is a driving route.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein the route is a walking route.
14 . The method of claim 1 further comprising generating an animation of traveling the route, the animation displaying the route and at least one point of interest along the route.
15 . The method of claim 14 wherein:
the animation is user-controllable such that a user controls the starting and the stopping of displaying the route, and
when the animation is stopped, the animation displays at least one point of interest associated with a point of the route at which the animation is stopped.
16 . A computer-readable medium or propagated signal having embodied thereon a computer program configured to present a route using more than one presentation style, the medium or signal comprising one or more code segments configured to:
access route information for a route that includes an origin location and a destination location; generate a map that includes elements on the route and elements that are not on the route, wherein a first presentation style is used to represent elements on the route and a second presentation is used to represent elements that are not on the route, and enable access to the map by a user system for presentation on a display associated with the user system.
17 . The medium or signal of claim 16 wherein the one or more code segments configured to generate the map comprise one or more code segments configured to generate the map to include an origin location and a destination location.
18 . The medium or signal of claim 16 wherein the one or more code segments are configured to generate the map to include only one of the origin location or the destination location.
19 . The medium or signal of claim 16 wherein the one or more code segments are configured to generate the map to include neither the origin location nor the destination location.
20 . The medium or signal of claim 16 wherein the one or more code segments configured to generate the map comprise one or more code segments configured to generate the map to include a highlighted style as the first presentation style and a faded style as the second presentation style.
