Claims

Abstract

The present disclosure decreases or avoids tearing at a time when a stereoscopic image is updated, without increasing the capacity of memory. The stereoscopic image playback apparatus extracts a set of rendering requests for a left image plane and a right image plane from the BD-J application, and prevents a discord between update timing of an image for the left eye and an image for the right eye by adjusting an actual rendering timing or rendering order depending on an operation of an image output side. This enables an image update which relatively does not make viewers uncomfortable.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A stereoscopic image playback apparatus, comprising:
 a left image plane including graphics data for the left eye;   a right image plane including graphics data for the right eye;   a right-and-left rendering arbiter to extract a set of rendering requests for the left image plane and the right image plane and to control timing and an order of rendering; and   a plane synthesizer to output the graphics data in the left image plane and the right image plane as an image.   
     
     
         2 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein
 the plane synthesizer alternately outputs the graphics data in the left and the right image planes as an image, and   the right-and-left rendering arbiter performs rendering for the left image plane after the output of the graphics data in the left image plane is completed by the plane synthesizer and performs rendering for the right image plane after the output of the graphics data in the right image plane is completed by the plane synthesizer in response to the extracted set of rendering requests.   
     
     
         3 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein
 the plane synthesizer outputs the graphics data in the left and right image planes in parallel as an image, and   the right-and-left rendering arbiter simultaneously performs rendering for the left image plane and the right image plane in response to the extracted set of rendering requests.   
     
     
         4 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein
 the right-and-left rendering arbiter extracts a simultaneous rendering request for the left image plane and the right image plane as the set of the rendering requests for the left image plane and the right image plane.   
     
     
         5 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein
 the right-and-left rendering arbiter suspends extracting the rendering request for the left image plane and extracts, as a set, the suspended rendering request and the rendering request for the right image plane that immediately follows the suspended rendering request.   
     
     
         6 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein
 the right-and-left rendering arbiter suspends extracting the rendering requests for the left image plane and the right image plane that immediately follows the rendering request for the left image plane and, upon immediately thereafter receiving a screen update request, extracts, as a set, both the suspended rendering requests.   
     
     
         7 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 a connected image plane formed by connecting the left image plane and the right image plane horizontally or vertically, and   the right-and-left rendering arbiter extracts, as a set, the rendering requests for the left image plane and the right image plane upon receiving a rendering request specifying an area covering both an area corresponding to the left image plane and the right image plane.   
     
     
         8 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein
 the right-and-left rendering arbiter outputs a warning message when the right-and-left rendering arbiter fails to extract, as a set, the rendering requests for the left image plane and the right image plane that immediately follows the rendering request for the left image plane.   
     
     
         9 . The stereoscopic image playback apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein
 the right-and-left rendering arbiter compares a coordinate specified for rendering by the rendering request for the left image plane with a coordinate specified for rendering by the rendering request for the right image plane that immediately follows the rendering request for the left image plane, and extracts, as a set, both rendering requests when Y-coordinates of the coordinates of the left image plane and the right image plane coincide with each other.
