Abstract
Novel bacteriocins produced by novel bacterial strains are used for at least reducing the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria in animals, especially poultry.
Claims

6 . An isolated Paenibacillus polymyxa having the identifying characteristics of a Paenibacillus strain-selected from the group consisting of NRRL B-30507, NRRL B-30508, and NRRL B-30509.
7 - 12 . (canceled)
13 . A therapeutic composition comprising:
(a) at least one isolated bacteriocin having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO 1, SEQ ID NO 2, SEQ ID NO. 3, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, and (b) a therapeutically acceptable carrier.
14 . A therapeutic feed for animals comprising:
(a) at least one isolated bacteriocin produced by a Paenibacillus polymyxa strain having the identifying characteristics of a strain selected from the group consisting of NRRL B-30507, NRRL B-30508, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, (b) a therapeutic carrier, and (c) an animal feed.
15 . (canceled)
16 . A therapeutic feed for animals comprising:
(a) An isolated bacteriocin produced by a Bacillus circulans strain having the identifying characteristics of NRRL B-30644 in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, (b) a therapeutic carrier, and (c) an animal feed.
17 . (canceled)
18 . A therapeutic feed comprising:
(a) at least one isolated bacteriocin produced by a microorganism selected from the group consisting of NRRL B-30507, NRRL B-30508, NRRL B-30509, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, (b) a therapeutic carrier, and (c) an animal feed.
19 . A therapeutic animal feed comprising:
(a) at least one isolated bacteriocin having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO 1, SEQ ID NO 2, SEQ ID NO 3 and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, (b) a therapeutic carrier, and (c) an animal feed.
20 . A method for at least reducing the level of colonization by at least one target bacteria in an animal comprising:
administering to an animal a therapeutic composition comprising at least one isolated bacteriocin produced by a Paenibacillus polymyxa bacteria having the identifying characterisitics of a strain selected from the group consisting of a NRRL B-30507, NRRL B-30508, NRRL B-30509, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria and a therapeutic carrier.
21 . The method of claim 20 wherein said bacteriocin has an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID 1, SEQ ID 2, and mixtures thereof.
22 . A method for at least reducing the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria in an animal comprising:
administering to an animal a therapeutic composition comprising an isolated bacteriocin produced by a Bacillus circulans strain having the identifying characteristics of NRRL B-30644 in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria in an animal and a therapeutic carrier.
23 . The method of claim 22 wherein said bacteriocin has an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 3.
24 . A method for at least reducing the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria in an animal comprising:
administering to an animal a therapeutic composition comprising at least one isolated bacteriocin produced by a microorganism selected from the group consisting of NRRL B-30507, NRRL B-30508, NRRL B-30509, NRRL B-30644, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization of at least one target bacteria, and a therapeutic carrier.
25 . A method for at least reducing the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria in an animal comprising:
administering to an animal a therapeutic composition comprising at least one isolated bacteriocin having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting SEQ ID NO 1, SEQ ID NO 2, SEQ ID NO 3, and mixtures thereof in amounts effective to at least reduce the levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria and a therapeutic carrier.
26 . A therapeutic composition comprising:
(a) an isolated bacteriocin having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 3 in amounts effective to at least reduce levels of colonization by at least one target bacteria, and (b) a suitable therapeutic carrier.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
