Abstract

Methods, systems, devices, and programming structures for providing temporary substitute placeholder content for rich media content in data sets downloaded to wireless communications devices. The substitute placeholder content may be logically related to the rich content for which it substitutes, and may be displayed in the same relative size and location as the rich content ultimately to be displayed.

Claims

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method of displaying data comprising:
determining, based upon a request for access to display content data representing relatively rich and relatively non-rich media content, a relative size and display location of at least one portion of the display content data which represents the relatively rich media content; identifying substitute placeholder data representing display content that is relatively less rich than the rich media content; and enabling a display to display of the non-rich media content and the substitute placeholder data, with the substitute placeholder data in the relative size and display location of the rich media content.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the substitute placeholder data also has a logical relation to the rich media content.

23 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising providing the relatively rich media content after the substitute placeholder data.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the substitute placeholder data is selected from a plurality of placeholder data sets, based at least partly on the logical relation.

25 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising storing the substitute placeholder data on an electronic device including the display.

26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the substitute display content data set comprises identifiers useable for accessing separately-stored data sets in displaying the non-rich media content.

27 . The method of claim 21 , comprising using a display content controller to perform the determining, identifying and enabling.

28 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising wireless communications circuitry coupled to the display.

29 . A method of displaying data comprising:
determining, based upon a request for display content comprising relatively rich and relatively non-rich media content, a relative size and display location of at least one portion of the display content which represents the relatively rich media content; identifying substitute placeholder data representing display content that is relatively less rich than the rich media content; and causing a display to display the non-rich media content and the substitute placeholder data, with the substitute placeholder data in the relative size and location of the rich media content.

30 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the substitute placeholder data also has a logical relation to the rich media content.

31 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the substitute placeholder data is selected from a plurality of placeholder data sets, based at least partly on the logical relation.

32 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising storing the substitute placeholder data on an electronic device including the display.

33 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the substitute display content data set comprises identifiers useable for accessing separately-stored data sets in displaying the non-rich media content.

34 . The method of claim 29 , comprising using a processor coupled to the display to perform the determining, identifying and enabling.

35 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising wireless communications circuitry coupled to the display.

36 . A display content control device for providing data representing content to be displayed on an electronic device, the display device comprising:
a controller and memory coupled thereto and configured to
determine, based upon a request for access to display content data representing relatively rich and relatively non-rich media content, a relative size and display location of at least one portion of the display content data which represents the relatively rich media content,
identify substitute placeholder data representing display content that is relatively less rich than the rich media content, and
enabling a display of the electronic device to display of the non-rich media content and the substitute placeholder data, with the substitute placeholder data in the relative size and display location of the rich media content.

37 . The display content control device of claim 36 , wherein the substitute placeholder data also has a logical relation to the rich media content.

38 . The display content control device of claim 36 , wherein said controller is configured to provide the relatively rich media content after the substitute placeholder data.

39 . The display content control device of claim 36 , wherein the substitute placeholder data is selected from a plurality of placeholder data sets, based at least partly on the logical relation.

40 . The display content control device of claim 36 , wherein said controller is configured to store the substitute placeholder data on the electronic device including the display.

41 . The display content control device of claim 36 , wherein the substitute display content data set comprises identifiers useable for accessing separately-stored data sets in displaying the non-rich media content.

42 . An electronic device comprising:
a display; a controller coupled to said display and configured to
determine, based upon a request for display content comprising relatively rich and relatively non-rich media content, a relative size and display location of at least one portion of the display content which represents the relatively rich media content,
identify substitute placeholder data representing display content that is relatively less rich than the rich media content, and
cause said display to display the non-rich media content and the substitute placeholder data, with the substitute placeholder data in the relative size and location of the rich media content.

43 . The electronic device of claim 42 , wherein the substitute placeholder data also has a logical relation to the rich media content.

44 . The electronic device of claim 42 , wherein the substitute placeholder data is selected from a plurality of placeholder data sets, based at least partly on the logical relation.

45 . The electronic device of claim 42 , further comprising a memory coupled to said controller; and wherein said controller is configured to store the substitute placeholder data in said memory.
