Abstract

Call access management. Receiving a request from a device for an incoming call to a called number. Obtaining presence information of the called party. Presenting the obtained information via the calling device. Presenting action option(s) including an option to proceed with the call. Receiving an action choice corresponding to proceed with the call. Presenting a request for credentials to the calling party. Receiving credentials corresponding to a calling party permitted to continue with the call. Proceeding with the call.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A system for managing packet-switched calls received from a calling device, the system comprising:
 a processor; and   a memory having stored therein instructions which, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to perform steps comprising:
 in response to receiving a call request from the calling device at a telephone number associated with a called party, sending to the calling device presence information associated with a called party, the presence information including a message providing called party criteria for receiving incoming calls and call options including an option to proceed with the requested call; 
 sending to the calling device, a request for pre-defined credentials in response to receiving a selection of the option to proceed with the call from the calling device; and 
 proceeding with the call in response to receiving pre-defined credentials. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1  further comprising the step of obtaining the presence information from a calendar associated with the called party. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2  further comprising obtaining the calendar associated with the called party from an external data source. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 3  wherein the external data source includes at least one of a mail server and a presence server. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1  wherein the message is based on a profile that identifies pre-selected messages. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1  wherein the call options further comprise at least one of routing the call to voice mail, sending a Short Message Service (SMS) message, and terminating the call request. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 1  wherein the pre-defined credentials further comprise at least one of a pass code, password, and voice recognition. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1  wherein the pre-defined credentials further comprise at least one of voice input, text input, and Caller Identification (Caller ID). 
     
     
         9 . A computer-implemented method for managing packet-switched calls received from a calling device, the method comprising:
 in response to receiving a call request from the calling device at a telephone number associated with a called party, sending to the calling device presence information associated with a called party, the presence information including a message providing called party criteria for receiving incoming calls and call options including an option to proceed with the requested call;   sending to the calling device, a request for pre-defined credentials in response to receiving a selection of the option to proceed with the call from the calling device; and   proceeding with the call in response to receiving pre-defined credentials.   
     
     
         10 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 9  further comprising obtaining the presence information from a calendar associated with the called party. 
     
     
         11 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 10  further comprising obtaining the calendar associated with the called party from an external data source. 
     
     
         12 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11  wherein the external data source includes at least one of a mail server and a presence server. 
     
     
         13 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 9  wherein the message is based on a profile that identifies pre-selected messages. 
     
     
         14 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 9  wherein the call options further comprise at least one of routing the call to voice mail, sending a Short Message Service (SMS) message, and terminating the call request. 
     
     
         15 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 9  wherein the pre-defined credentials further comprise at least one of a pass code, password, and voice recognition.

         17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored therein instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform a method comprising:
 in response to receiving a call request from a calling device at a telephone number associated with a called party, sending to the calling device presence information associated with a called party, the presence information including a message providing called party criteria for receiving incoming calls and call options including an option to proceed with the requested call;   sending to the calling device, a request for pre-defined credentials in response to receiving a selection of the option to proceed with the call from the calling device; and   proceeding with the call in response to receiving pre-defined credentials.   
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17  further comprising obtaining presence information from a calendar associated with the called party. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 18  further comprising obtaining the calendar associated with the called party form an external data source. 
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 19  wherein the external data source includes at least one of a mail server and a presence server. 
     
     
         21 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17  wherein the message is based on a profile that identifies pre-selected messages. 
     
     
         22 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17  wherein the call options further comprise at least one of routing the call to voice mail, sending a Short Message Service (SMS) message, and terminating the call request. 
     
     
         23 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17  wherein the pre-selected credentials further comprise at least one of a pass code, password, and voice recognition.
