Abstract
Methods, computer systems, and computer-storage media are provided for facilitating the management of a patient's fall risk. It is determined that the patient has previously been classified as a fall risk. Inputs are automatically received from fall risk sensors located in the patient's clinical care room, and, based on the inputs received from the fall risk sensors, it is determined that the patient is currently at risk for falling. Alerts are initiated and settings for components within the clinical care room are adjusted to decrease the patient's fall risk.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for managing fall risk for a patient in a clinical care room, the method comprising:
determining that the patient has previously been classified as a fall risk; automatically receiving one or more inputs from one or more fall risk sensors in the clinical care room; based on the one or more inputs, determining that the patient is currently at risk for falling; initiating one or more alerts; and adjusting settings for components in the clinical care room such that the patient's fall risk is decreased.
2 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the one or more fall risk sensors comprise at least one of a bed weight sensor, a guard rail sensor, or a depth camera.
3 . The media of claim 2 , wherein the depth camera is used to monitor a location, movement, and position of the patient.
4 . The media of claim 1 , wherein determining that the patient has previously been classified as a fall risk comprises accessing the patient's electronic medical record and identifying an indication that the patient has been classified as a fall risk.
5 . The media of claim 1 , further comprising: prior to initiating the one or more alerts and prior to adjusting the setting for the components in the clinical care room, determining that a clinician is not present in the clinical care room.
6 . The media of claim 5 , wherein initiating one or more alerts comprises at least communicating a message to a message queue of a device associated with a clinician, wherein the message notifies the clinician that the patient is currently at risk for falling.
7 . The media of claim 5 , wherein adjusting settings for the components in the clinical care room comprises at least presenting a message on a display device in the clinical care room informing the patient to stay in bed and that a clinician has been notified.
8 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for transitioning a clinical care room from a first scene to a second scene in order to facilitate management of a patient's fall risk, the method comprising:
presenting the first scene in the clinical care room having one or more zones, the first scene being associated with a first group of setting for components within the one or more zones; determining that the patient has previously been classified as being at risk for falling; automatically receiving one or more inputs from fall risk sensors located in the clinical care room; based on the one or more inputs from the fall risk sensors, determining that the patient is currently at risk for falling; providing a second scene in the clinical care room, the second scene being associated with a second group of settings for the components within the one or more zones, the second group of settings optimized to facilitate the management of the patient's fall risk.
9 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the components includes at least a patient interactive station component, a sensor interface, an interactive room link component, a connectivity engine, a medical device interface, a communication component, and a bed interface.
10 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the second group of settings comprises at least one of:
(A) displaying on a digital room sign located outside the clinical care room's entrance an indication that the patient is currently at risk for falling, (B) alerting one or more clinicians that the patient is currently at risk for falling, (C) adjusting one or more lights in the clinical care room to facilitate management of the patient's fall risk, and (D) presenting a message on a display device in the clinical care room, the message informing the patient to stay in bed and that a clinician will be arriving to assist the patient.
11 . The media of claim 10 , wherein presenting the message on the display device comprises presenting a visual message and presenting an auditory message.
12 . The media of claim 8 , further comprising:
receiving an indication that management of the patient's fall risk is successful; and automatically providing the first scene in the clinical care room.
13 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for managing fall risk for a patient in a clinical care room, the method comprising:
accessing the patient's electronic medical record and determining that the patient is classified as a fall risk; receiving one or more inputs from fall risk sensors in the clinical care room, the fall risk sensors comprising one or more of a weight sensor, a guard rail sensor, or a location sensor; based on the one or more inputs, determining that the patient is currently at risk for falling; determining that a clinician is not present in the clinical care room; and initiating one or more actions, the one or more actions comprising:
(A) notifying one or more clinicians that the patient is currently at risk for falling, and
(B) communicating a message to the patient.
14 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the weight sensor and the guard rail sensor are located on the patient's bed in the clinical care room.
15 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the location sensor comprises a depth camera.
16 . The media of claim 13 , wherein determining that a clinician is not present in the clinical care room comprises receiving a notification from a real-time-location-service that a clinician is not located in the clinical care room.
17 . The media of claim 13 , wherein notifying the one or more clinicians that the patient is currently at risk for falling comprises communicating an alert to a message queue of a device associated with each of the one or more clinicians.
18 . The media of claim 17 , wherein the alert is classified as a critical alert.
19 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the one or more actions further comprise displaying a message on a digital room sign located outside the clinical care room's entrance an indication that the patient is currently at risk for falling.
20 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the message is communicated to the patient via a television in the clinical care room.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
