Selective sending of portions of electronic content

Abstract

A user of a handheld communication device selects in a foreground process portions of an electronic document. In a background process a new document is prepared that comprises the selected portions. The user selects the address for forwarding the new document, and the new document gets sent in a background process.

         13 . A method for transmitting a portion of an electronic file from a handheld device via an electronic network, the method comprising:
 playing, in a foreground process of the handheld device, the electronic file;   receiving, from a user of the handheld device during the playing of the electronic file, a first position associated with the electronic file and a second position associated with the electronic file;   in response to receiving the first position and the second position, automatically preparing in a background process of the handheld device a portion of the electronic file based on the first position and the second position; and   transmitting to a recipient, via the electronic network, the portion of the electronic file.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising:
 receiving an indication, from the user of the handheld device, of the recipient,   wherein transmitting the portion of the electronic file is performed in response to receiving the indication.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the electronic file comprises a sound file, the method further comprising:
 displaying a graphical representation of a play-out of the sound file,   wherein the first position and the second position correspond with first and second time positions included in the graphical representation.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the graphical representation comprises a colored bar. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein receiving the first position and the second position further comprises:
 receiving an indication of the first and second positions included in the graphical representation.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein receiving the indication of the first and second positions comprises receiving an indication of one or more locations on a touch screen display included in the handheld device associated with the graphical representation. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the first position comprises a first pointer associated with a first location in the electronic file and the second position comprises a second pointer associated with a second location in the electronic file. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the method further comprises:
 automatically preparing in the background process of the handheld device, in response to receiving the first position and the second time position, a message associated with the portion of the electronic file, and   wherein the transmitting step further comprises transmitting the message with the portion of the electronic file.   
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 20 , wherein the message comprises an e-mail message. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the portion of the electronic file comprises an attachment to the e-mail message.
