Protein hydrolysate enriched in peptides inhibiting dpp-iv and their use

Abstract

Disclosed is a protein hydrolysate having DPP-IV inhibiting activity, the hydrolysate being enriched in peptides having a length of 2-8 amino acids comprising at least one proline residue, an isolated peptide derivable from such a protein hydrolysate, or a mixture thereof, and the use of such protein hydrolysate or isolated peptide for the manufacture of a medicament, food supplement, beverage or food product for prophylaxis and/or treatment of a DPP-IV mediated condition, in particular chosen from the group of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and an immunological disorder.

A protein hydrolysate having DPP-IV inhibiting activity, the hydrolysate comprising (i) 20 and 80 wt. %, based on total protein, of peptides having a length of 2-8 amino acids, and (ii) one or more peptides having 3-7 amino acids in which at least one proline residue is flanked by leucine, valine or phenylalanine. 
     
     
         2 . The protein hydrolysate according to  claim 1 , wherein the protein hydrolysate is a milk protein hydrolysate. 
     
     
         3 . The protein hydrolysate according to  claim 2 , wherein the protein hydrolysate is a casein hydrolysate. 
     
     
         4 . The protein hydrolysate according to  claim 1 , comprising between 20 and 80 wt. % of peptides having a length of 3-7 amino acids. 
     
     
         5 . The protein hydrolysate according to  claim 1 , wherein the hydrolysate comprises at least one peptide selected from LPL, MPLW, GPFP, PLLQ, KVLP, LPQYL, LPVPQ, VPYPQ, VPLGTQ, and LPVPQK. 
     
     
         6 . The protein hydrolysate according to  claim 5 , wherein the hydrolysate comprises at least one peptide selected from VPYPQ, VPLGTQ, LPVPQK, KVLP and LPL. 
     
     
         7 . An isolated peptide or mixture of peptides comprising a peptide selected from the group consisting of LPL, MPLW, GPFP, PLLQ, KVLP, LPQYL, LPVPQ, VPYPQ, VPLGTQ, and LPVPQK, or a mixture of two or more thereof. 
     
     
         8 . The isolated peptide according to  claim 7 , comprising a peptide selected from VPYPQ, VPLGTQ and LPVPQK. 
     
     
         9 . A food product comprising a protein hydrolysate according to  claim 1 . 
     
     
         10 . A food product comprising a peptide according to  claim 7 .
