Abstract

A non-compliant medical balloon is formed with a first fiber layer including a first fiber and a second fiber layer over said first fiber layer. The first fiber is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the non-compliant medical balloon.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method for making a medical balloon having a longitudinal axis, comprising:
providing a mandrel corresponding in shape to the medical balloon; forming a wall of the medical balloon on the mandrel; and removing the mandrel.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the forming step comprises applying at least one fiber to the mandrel.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the applying step comprises attaching the at least one fiber in direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the balloon.

24 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the applying step comprises attaching the at least one fiber in direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the balloon.

25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the applying step comprises:
attaching a plurality of fibers in direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the balloon; and attaching the at least one fiber in direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the balloon.

26 . The method of claim 21 , further including the step of providing a base layer on the mandrel prior to the forming step.

27 . The method of claim 26 , further including the step of curing the base layer.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the removing step comprises dissolving the mandrel.

29 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the removing step comprises changing the temperature of the mandrel.

30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the removing step comprises melting the mandrel.

31 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the removing step comprises applying a solvent to the mandrel.

32 . A method for making a medical balloon having a longitudinal axis, comprising:
providing a removable mandrel including a cylindrical barrel section and two conical end sections; applying at least one fiber layer to the mandrel; and removing the mandrel.

33 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the applying step comprises applying a fabric to the mandrel.

34 . The method of claim 33 , further including the step of applying a fiber over the fabric.

         35 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the applying step comprises;
providing the at least one fiber layer in the form of a plurality of fibers extending in direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the balloon; and providing at least one fiber in direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the balloon.

36 . The method of claim 32 , further including the step of applying an adhesive to the mandrel prior to the applying step.

37 . A method for forming a non-compliant medical balloon having a longitudinal axis, comprising:
providing a mandrel; applying a first fiber layer to the mandrel; applying a second fiber layer over the first fiber layer; coating the first or second fiber layer with a coating; and removing the mandrel.

38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the applying step comprises applying a first fabric to the mandrel including fibers extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction.

39 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the applying step comprises applying the second fiber layer in the form of at least one fiber extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.

40 . The method of claim 37 , further including the step of curing the coating prior to removing the mandrel.
