Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to improved X-ray contrast media compositions and methods of using the same for treating symptoms related to allergic reactions, inflammatory conditions, symptoms of the common cold and certain cancers.

A method of treating nasal airway resistance in connection with a nasal allergic condition in a mammal in need thereof, comprising administering to a nasal tissue of a mammal suffering from nasal airway resistance in connection with a nasal allergic condition a composition comprising a triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer, in an amount sufficient to treat said nasal airway resistance in connection with the nasal allergic condition, wherein the composition is formulated at least substantially free of a zinc chelator. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the zinc chelator is Ca-EDTA, Na-EDTA or EDTA. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the composition is free of Ca-EDTA, Na-EDTA or EDTA.

         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the nasal allergic condition is allergic rhinitis.

The method of  claim 1 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is selected from the group consisting of either a monomeric nonionic, a monomeric ionic, a dimeric nonionic, or a dimeric ionic contrast media.

The method of  claim 1 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is selected from the group consisting of iopamidol, ioversol, iopromide, iohexyl, iothalamate (iothalamic acid), diatrizoate, ioxaglate (ioxaglic acid), iodipamide, iodixanol, iopanoic acid, sodium tyropanoate, and iotrolan, acetrizoate sodium, bunamidiodyl sodium, diatrizoate sodium, iobenzamic acid, iocarmic acid, iocetamic acid, iodamide, iodophthalein sodium, ioglycamic acid, iomeglamic acid, iopental, iophenoxic acid, iopromide, ipronic acid, ioxilan, ipodate, meglumine acetrizoate, meglumine diatrizoate, metrizamide, metrizoic acid, phenobutiodil, phentetiothalein sodium, tyropanoate sodium, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is iopamidol, ioversol, iopromide, iohexyl, iothalamate (iothalamic acid), diatrizoate, ioxaglate or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is ioxaglate. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer contrast media is provided in a concentration of 150 mg I/mL to 350 mg I/mL. 
     
     
         13 . In a method of treating allergic rhinitis with an X-ray contrast reagent, wherein the X-ray contrast reagent comprises a triiodinated, benzene moiety that is completely or partially substituted, and wherein said X-ray contrast medium is a non-ionic monomer, an ionic monomer, a non-ionic dimer, or an ionic dimer, the improvement comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of the triiodinated, benzene moiety that is completely or partially substituted in a composition that is substantially free of zinc chelator, thereby reducing the inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE).

The method of  claim 13 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is selected from the group consisting of iopamidol, ioversol, iopromide, iohexyl, iothalamate (iothalamic acid), diatrizoate, ioxaglate (ioxaglic acid), iodipamide, iodixanol, iopanoic acid, sodium tyropanoate, iotrolan, acetrizoate sodium, bunamidiodyl sodium, diatrizoate sodium, iobenzamic acid, iocarmic acid, iocetamic acid, iodamide, iodophthalein sodium, ioglycamic acid, iomeglamic acid, iopental, iophenoxic acid, iopromide, ipronic acid, ioxilan, ipodate, meglumine acetrizoate, meglumine diatrizoate, metrizamide, metrizoic acid, phenobutiodil, phentetiothalein sodium, tyropanoate sodium, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is iodipamide. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the triiodinated, completely or partially substituted benzene moiety in the form of a monomer or a dimer is iodipamide.
