Abstract

A system for managing critical student information is disclosed generally comprising storing information associated with individual students, such as important medical information or contact information for the student's parent or guardian, and providing different authorized users, such as school administrators, teachers, or coaches, permission to access the information and/or send messages for particular students. The stored information for each student is associated with one or more group identifiers, which identify particular groups of which the student is a member, such as a school or team, and each authorized user is likewise associated with one or more group identifiers, which identify the particular groups for which the user has access and can send messages.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A computer implemented method for managing student information, comprising the steps of:
storing student information for each one of a plurality of students; associating at least one of a plurality of group identifiers with the stored student information for each of the plurality of students, wherein each of the group identifiers identifies a group of students; storing a plurality of user identifiers, wherein each user identifier identifies a particular user; associating with each user identifier at least one of the plurality of group identifiers, wherein each of the group identifiers associated with a particular user identifier identifies a group for which the particular user identified by the particular user identifier has access to the student information; receiving, on a computer, a user identifier via a user input; identifying, on a computer, group identifiers associated with the received user identifier; determining, on a computer, whether the student information has a group identifier associated therewith that is also a group identifier associated with the received user identifier; and providing the user identified by the received user identifier with student information stored for one or more particular students only if the student information stored for the one or more particular students has a group identifier associated therewith that is also a group identifier associated with the received user identifier; wherein fewer than all members of a group are authorized to access the student information for other members of the group.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the student information comprises medical information.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the medical information comprises vaccination information.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the medical information comprises allergy information.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of uploading the student information to a remote device.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the remote device is a mobile device.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:
deleting the student information for at least some of the plurality of students from a school database at a first school; and uploading the deleted student information to a second school database located at a second school.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least some of the plurality of user identifiers are not associated with at least some of the plurality of group identifiers.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user access to the student information is edit access.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a first one of the groups is a subgroup of a second one of the groups.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the group identifier associated with the subgroup identifies a group consisting of students that attend a particular school, are in a particular grade, are in a particular class, have a particular medical condition, are on a particular team, or are in a particular club.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the student information comprises emergency contact information.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising the step of communicating information to a destination corresponding to a student using the emergency contact information stored for the student.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the step of communicating comprises communicating to a parent or legal guardian of a plurality of students having a group identifier associated therewith that is also a group identifier that is associated with the received user identifier.

15 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising the steps of:
receiving recipient data for a destination to which the information was communicated, wherein the recipient data received for the destination indicates whether the information communicated to the destination was received; and storing the received recipient data.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the received recipient data includes recipient data for student information communicated via electronic mail, and wherein the received recipient data further indicates whether the electronic mail has been read.

17 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of associating at least one of a plurality of guardian identifiers with the student information for each of the plurality of students, wherein each of the guardian identifiers identifies a person authorized to provide the student information associated therewith.

18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the student information comprises permission information in the event a school is closed before regular dismissal time.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the permission information comprises surrogate information identifying a surrogate who may pick up a student.

20 . A system for managing student information, comprising:
a server; a storage having student information for each one of a plurality of students, the storage in electronic communication with the server; student associating software associating at least one of a plurality of group identifiers with the stored student information for each of the plurality of students, wherein each of the group identifiers identifies a group of students; storing software storing a plurality of user identifiers, wherein each user identifier identifies a particular user; user associating software associating with each user identifier at least one of the plurality of group identifiers, wherein each of the group identifiers associated with a particular user identifier identifies a group for which the particular user identified by the particular user identifier has access to the student information; receiving software receiving a user identifier via a user input; identifying software identifying group identifiers associated with the received user identifier; and determining software determining whether the student information has a group identifier associated therewith that is also a group identifier associated with the received user identifier; wherein student information stored for one or more particular students is provided to the user identified by the received user identifier only if the student information stored for the one or more particular students has a group identifier associated therewith that is also a group identifier associated with the received user identifier; and wherein fewer than all members of a group are authorized to access the student information for other members of the group.

21 . The system of claim 20 further comprising a kiosk for receiving the user input.

22 . The system of claim 20 , wherein at least some of the plurality of user identifiers are not associated with at least some of the plurality of group identifiers.

23 . The system of claim 20 , wherein user input is received via a web page.

24 . The system of claim 20 , wherein user input is received via an application executing on a mobile device.

25 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the user access to the student information is edit access.
