Abstract

A transmitting device, a receiving device, and a communication method for transmitting and receiving data modulated on frequency subcarriers of an OFDM communication system. An OFDM burst includes a preamble part and payload data part, whereby the preamble includes a section of pilot symbols mapped onto every n-th frequency subcarrier and signaling data mapped onto the frequency subcarriers between the frequency subcarriers with the pilot symbols. A first channel estimation on the basis of the received pilot symbols is performed, the result of which is used to reconstruct the entire section of the received preamble as a training pattern for an accurate channel estimation, which is used for a channel equalization of the received payload part.

1 . A PLC transmitting device for transmitting signals modulated on frequency subcarriers of an OFDM powerline communication system, the transmitting device configured to transmit OFDM bursts including a preamble part and a payload data part and comprising:
 preamble generating means for generating the preamble part with a section of synchronization information mapped onto every fourth frequency subcarrier and signaling data mapped onto the frequency subcarriers between frequency subcarriers with the synchronization information.   
     
     
         2 . The PLC transmitting device according to  claim 1 , wherein, the synchronization information forms a cross-correlation pattern. 
     
     
         3 . The PLC transmitting device according to  claim 1 , wherein, the preamble generating means modulates the signaling data with a robust modulation scheme. 
     
     
         4 . The PLC transmitting device according to  claim 3 , wherein, the robust modulation scheme is a BPSK or QPSK modulation scheme. 
     
     
         5 . The PLC transmitting device according to  claim 1 , wherein, the preamble generating means provides the signaling data with a forward error correction. 
     
     
         6 . The PLC transmitting device according to  claim 1 , wherein, the preamble generating means generates a further section including AGC data and an auto-correlation pattern. 
     
     
         7 . A PLC receiving device for receiving signals modulated on frequency subcarriers of an OFDM powerline communication, system, the receiving device configured to receive OFDM bursts including a preamble part and a payload data part, the preamble part including a section with synchronization information mapped onto every fourth frequency subcarrier and signaling data mapped onto the frequency subcarriers between the frequency subcarriers with the synchronization information, the receiving device comprising:
 first channel estimation means for performing a first channel estimation based on the received synchronization information, a result of which is used to reconstruct an entire section of the received preamble as a training pattern for an accurate channel estimation; and   channel equalization means for using the result of the accurate channel estimation for a channel equalization of the received payload part.   
     
     
         8 . The PLC receiving device according to  claim 7 , wherein, the first channel estimation means performs the first channel estimation by comparing the training pattern with the received section of the preamble part. 
     
     
         9 . The PLC receiving device according to  claim 7 , wherein, the channel estimation result provided by the first channel estimation means based on the received synchronization information is supplied to a second channel equalization means performing a channel equalization on the received signaling data. 
     
     
         10 . The PLC receiving device according to  claim 9 , wherein, the equalized signaling data is used to reconstruct the entire section of the received preamble as the training pattern for the accurate channel estimation. 
     
     
         11 . A PLC communication method for transmitting and receiving signals modulated on frequency subcarriers of an OFDM powerline communication system, whereby OFDM bursts including a preamble part and a payload part are transmitted, the preamble part having a section of synchronization information mapped onto every fourth frequency subcarrier and signaling data mapped onto the frequency subcarriers between the frequency subcarriers with the synchronization information, the method comprising:
 performing a first channel estimation based on the received synchronization information, a result of which is used to reconstruct an entire section of the received preamble as a training pattern for an accurate channel estimation, which is used for a channel equalization of the received payload part.   
     
     
         12 . The PLC communication method according to  claim 11 , wherein, the accurate channel estimation is performed by comparing the training pattern with the received section of the preamble part. 
     
     
         13 . The PLC communication method according to  claim 11 , wherein, the first channel estimation result is used to perform a channel equalization on the received signaling data. 
     
     
         14 . The PLC communication method according to  claim 11 , wherein, the equalized signaling data is used to reconstruct the entire section of the received preamble as the training pattern for the accurate channel estimation.
