Abstract

This document provides to methods and materials related to apoptosis. For example, methods and materials for modulating apoptosis are provided. In addition, methods and materials for treating a mammal having an apoptosis-associated condition are provided.

1 . A substantially pure antibody having the ability to bind to a polypeptide having TRAIL-s activity to a level greater than the level of binding to a TRAILα, TRAILβ, or TRAILγ polypeptide. 
     
     
         2 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody has a dissociation constant that is less than 10 −7  for said polypeptide having TRAIL-s activity. 
     
     
         3 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said polypeptide having TRAIL-s activity is a human TRAIL-s polypeptide. 
     
     
         4 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said polypeptide having TRAIL-s activity is a polypeptide having the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1. 
     
     
         5 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said polypeptide having TRAIL-s activity is a polypeptide having the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2. 
     
     
         6 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody has no detectable binding to a TRAILα, TRAILβ, or TRAILγ polypeptide. 
     
     
         7 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody has a dissociation constant that is greater than 10 −6  for binding a TRAILα, TRAILβ, or TRAILγ polypeptide. 
     
     
         8 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody is a monoclonal antibody. 
     
     
         9 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody is a human monoclonal antibody. 
     
     
         10 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody is a polyclonal antibody. 
     
     
         11 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein said antibody is a humanized monoclonal antibody. 
     
     
         12 . A substantially pure antibody that binds an epitope of the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2.
