Claims

Abstract

A lubricating oil composition of the invention contains: (a) a base oil for a lubricating oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 2 mm 2 /s to 10 mm 2 /s; and (b) a poly-alpha-olefin having a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 15 mm 2 /s to 300 mm 2 /s, the poly-alpha-olefin (b) being produced using a metallocene catalyst, a content of the poly-alpha-olefin (b) being 20 mass % or more based on a total amount of the composition.

1 . A lubricating oil composition, comprising:
 (a) a base oil (a) having a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 2 mm 2 /s to 10 mm 2 /s; and   (b) a poly-alpha-olefin (b) having a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 15 mm 2 /s to 300 mm 2 /s, said poly-alpha-olefin (b) produced in the presence of a metallocene catalyst,   said composition having a content of the poly-alpha-olefin (b) of 20 mass % or more based on a total amount of the composition.   
     
     
         2 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition has a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 5 mm 2 /s to 20 mm 2 /s. 
     
     
         3 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the poly-alpha-olefin (b) has a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 40 mm 2 /s to 150 mm 2 /s. 
     
     
         4 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is suitable for a gear device in a manual transmission or a final reduction gear in automobiles, or for a step-up gear or a reducer in industrial machines. 
     
     
         5 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 2 , wherein the poly-alpha-olefin (b) has a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees C. in a range of 40 mm 2 /s to 150 mm 2 /s. 
     
     
         6 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 2 , wherein the composition is suitable for a gear device in a manual transmission or a final reduction gear in automobiles, or for a step-up gear or a reducer in industrial machines. 
     
     
         7 . The lubricating oil composition according to  claim 3 , wherein the composition is suitable for a gear device in a manual transmission or a final reduction gear in automobiles, or for a step-up gear or a reducer in industrial machines.
