Abstract

The present invention relates to treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with mammal beta defensins.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method of treating an rheumatoid arthritis, comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of a beta-defensin comprising an amino acid sequence that has at least 85% identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin is administered orally.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin is administered parenterally.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the beta-defensin is administered subcutaneously or intravenously.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin is administered at a daily dosage of from about 0.1 mg/kg body weight to about 100 mg/kg body weight.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin is administered at a daily dosage of from about 0.1 mg/kg body weight to about 10 mg/kg body weight.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin consists of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the beta-defensin comprises conserved cysteine residues corresponding to amino acid positions 8, 15, 20, 30, 37, 38 of SEQ ID NO: 5.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein any amino acid substitution in the beta-defensin relative to SEQ ID NO: 5 is a conservative substitution.

11 . A method of treating rheumatoid arthritis, comprising administering parenterally to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of a beta-defensin comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.
