Compositions for hair and body application
Abstract
The inventive compositions comprise a deionized water based of weight percent ranging from 55% to 95.7%, 0.30 to 0.35 weight percent of one or more preservatives selected from the group consisting of DMDM hydantoin, methylparaben, and polyparaben, 0.05 to 0.10 weight percent of a chelating agent, 0.001 to 5.05 weight percent of one or more conditioners and/or moisturizers selected from the groups consisting of polyquaternium-10, polyethylene glycol derivative of lanolin, cetrimonium chloride, cetrimonium bromide, Crotein HKP™, mixed mucopolysaccharides, pyrrolidone carboxylic acid, propylene glycol, hydrolyzed keratin protein, aloe vera powder, 0.05 to 0.15 weight percent of an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of citric acid and vitamin E acetate. The composition, which is in liquid form, may be applied in the form of a spray or mist, by dipping the affected area in the liquid, or by pouring a small amount of the liquid.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of repelling insects on a subject by applying to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising:
(a) a preservative; (b) a chelating agent; (c) a botanical; (d) a conditioner or moisturizer; and (e) an antioxidant.
2 . The method of claim 1 , where the composition is applied by a spray, wipe, or lotion.
3 . The method of claim 1 , whereupon a physical barrier of the botanical is formed.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the botanical is marigold extract.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a mammal.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the mammalian subject is a horse, dog, cat, or human.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one additional botanical extract selected from the group consisting of, Indian cress, rosemary extract, lavender extract, thyme, clove or a combination thereof.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the conditioner or moisturizer is selected from the group consisting of polyquaternium-10, polyethylene glycol, cetrimonium chloride, certimonium bromide, mixed mucopolysaccharides, pyrrolidoone carboxylic acid, propylene glycol, hydrolyzed keratin protein, aloe vera, or combinations thereof.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the antioxidant is selected from the group consisting of citric acid and vitamin E derivatives or a combination thereof.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the preservative is selected from the group consisting of DMDM (dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione) hydantoin and an alkylparaben or a combination thereof.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the alkylparaben is a methylparaben or a propylparaben.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the chelating agent is selected from the group consisting of porphine, ethylenediamine and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a fragrance.
14 . A method of making a composition for controlling unwanted contact with insects comprising:
(a) a first mixture of a preservative, a chelating agent, a botanical, a conditioner or moisturizer, and an antioxidant; (b) a second mixture of polysorbate and a fragrance; (c) combining the first and second mixtures; and (d) applying the composition to the skin of a subject to control unwanted contact with insects.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the botanical is marigold extract.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the composition is applied to the skin of a subject in the form of a spray, wipe or lotion.
17 . A composition effective at controlling unwanted contact with insects of the order Diptera comprising marigold extract, and a chelating agent.
18 . The composition of claim 17 further comprising a preservative.
19 . A method of preventing unwanted contact with insects of the order Diptera from a horse comprising application of a composition comprising (a) marigold extract; (b) a chelating agent; and (c) a preservative, to the skin of a horse.
20 . A method of preventing insect contact with a horse comprising applying to the horse a liquid composition comprising at least 0.2 percent marigold extract.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the composition is applied to the horse as a spray, wipe, or lotion.
22 . The method of claim 20 , whereupon a physical barrier is formed.
23 . A method of controlling flying insects around a horse comprising applying to a horse a liquid composition comprising at least 0.2 percent marigold extract.
24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the composition is applied to the horse as a spray, wipe or lotion.
25 . A method of repelling insects from a subject by applying to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising at least 0.2 percent marigold extract.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
