Abstract

This invention relates to fluorinated alkoxy-imino metallic complexes and their use in catalyst systems for the polymerisation or oligomerisation of ethylene and alpha-olefins.

         12 . A method for oligomerising or polymerizing ethylene or alpha-olefins comprising the steps of: 
       a. injecting an active catalyst system into a reactor, wherein the active catalyst system is formed by the process comprising:
 reacting via a metallation reaction, a metal salt or precursor of formula MX 4 , wherein M is a metal group 4 of the Periodic Table, and wherein each X is the same or different and is a halogen, an alkyl or a benzyl group with a fluorinated alcohol-imine pro-ligand of general formula 
 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein R 1  is a phenyl group, R 2  is hydrogen, C 1  to C 20  alkyl, C 1  to C 20  cycloalkyl or C 1  to C 20  aryl group, optionally substituted with one or more fluorinated alkyl groups, 
       R 3  and R 4  are each independently selected from perfluorinated alkyl groups, aryl or alkyl group, with the proviso that at least one of R 3  and R 4  is a perfluorinated alkyl group; 
       b. injecting a monomer and optional comonomer(s) simultaneously with or after step a); 
       c. maintaining the reactor under polymerization conditions; 
       d. retrieving an oligomer or a polymer. 
     
     
         13 . The method of claim  21 , wherein the perfluorinated alkyl group is selected from CF 3  or C n F 2n+1 , wherein n is an integer between 1 and 10. 
     
     
         14 . The method of claim  22 , wherein R 3  and R 4  are the same and are CF 3 . 
     
     
         15 . The method of claim  22 , wherein R 1  is substituted with H, F, CF 3  at positions 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, or with isopropyl at positions 2 and 6. 
     
     
         16 . The method of claim  22 , wherein X is chlorine, methyl or benzyl. 
     
     
         17 . The method of claim  22 , wherein M is Zr or Ti. 
     
     
         18 . The method of claim  22 , wherein the reactor pressure is between 5 and 25 bar. 
     
     
         19 . The method of claim  22 , wherein the polymerization temperature is between 50 and 85° C. 
     
     
         20 . The method of claim  22 , wherein the monomer is ethylene, propylene,1-hexene, 1-octene or styrene.
