Abstract

Packaging including a base and a removable lid for the base. The lid is configured for multiple configurations including a first configuration for storing an item and a second configuration for supporting the lid in a substantially upright orientation for displaying the item. Attachment supports can be included in the base for securing the stand in the upright orientation. Lid supports can be included in the attachment support to support the lid. Alternatively or additionally, an insert having a living hinge can be used to support the lid. The base may be substantially rigid or may be configured to be collapsible or to otherwise allow for multiple configurations.

1 . Packaging, comprising:
 a base;   an attachment support disposed on the base; and   a lid,   wherein the lid is configured to be disposed on the base in two configurations, a first, storage configuration in which the lid and base create a cavity for storing an item, and a second, display configuration in which the lid and the attachment support fixedly support the item in a substantially upright orientation for display, and   wherein a gap is created between the item and the base when the lid is in its second configuration.   
     
     
         2 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the lid is removable. 
     
     
         3 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the lid is disposed in the attachment support when the lid is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         4 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the item rests on the lid in the second configuration. 
     
     
         5 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support includes a support surface elevated above the base for supporting the lid and to raise the lid above the base when the lid is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         6 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein a side wall of the lid includes an opening sized to permit the item to be plugged in from the bottom of the item when the bottom is resting on the lid. 
     
     
         7 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the gap between the lid and the base is sized to permit the item to be plugged in from the bottom of the item when the bottom is resting on the lid. 
     
     
         8 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support includes a plug support for supporting a plug in a substantially upright orientation above the base. 
     
     
         9 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support secures a bottom side wall of the lid when the lid is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         10 . The packaging of  claim 6 , wherein the attachment support includes a hook for securing the bottom side wall of the lid. 
     
     
         11 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support includes a flange projecting from the side of the attachment support that allows a user to wrap a cord around the attachment support underneath the flange to prevent the cord from slipping off the attachment support. 
     
     
         12 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support includes a lid support for supporting a back surface of the lid when the lid is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         13 . The packaging of  claim 12 , wherein the lid support includes a front surface configured to support a back surface of the lid at an incline. 
     
     
         14 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the base includes a first surface and a plurality of side walls protruding from the first surface to define an interior space of the base, and
 wherein the cavity between the lid and the base, when the lid is in its first configuration, includes the interior space of the base and the interior space of the lid.   
     
     
         15 . The packaging of  claim 14 , further comprising an insert having a peripheral surface sized to fit closely within the plurality of the side walls of the base and an opening sized to fit closely over the attachment support of the base so that the insert substantially covers the interior of the base when the insert is placed on the base. 
     
     
         16 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of side walls of the lid includes a step, and
 wherein at least one of the plurality of side walls of the base includes a ledge configured to receive the step when the lid is in its first configuration.   
     
     
         17 . The packaging of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment support includes an acoustic amplifier configured to amplify sound produced by an item when the lid is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         18 . The packaging of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 an insert having a first portion and a second portion,   wherein the first portion is configured to rotate towards the second portion, and   wherein the first portion supports a back surface of the lid when the lid is in its second configuration.   
     
     
         19 . The packaging of  claim 18 , wherein the insert includes a hinge that separates the first and second portions. 
     
     
         20 . The packaging of  claim 19 , wherein the hinge is a living hinge. 
     
     
         21 . The packaging of  claim 19 , wherein one portion of the insert includes a second hinge configured to provide access to an inner space of the base. 
     
     
         22 . The packaging of  claim 19 , wherein the hinge is oriented on the insert longitudinally. 
     
     
         23 . Packaging, comprising:
 a base, including an interior space; and   an attachment support disposed in the interior space,   wherein the packaging is configured to support an item in two configurations, a first, storage configuration in which the item is securely stored within the interior space, and a second, display configuration in which the item is supported by the attachment support to fixedly support the item in a substantially upright orientation for displaying the item, and   wherein the attachment support is configured to raise the item above the base to create a gap between the item and the base when the item is in its second configuration.   
     
     
         24 . The packaging of  claim 23 , wherein the attachment support includes a support surface elevated above the base for supporting the item and to raise the item above the base when the item is in its second configuration. 
     
     
         25 . The packaging of  claim 23 , further comprising a lid which when disposed on the base creates an interior space for storing the item. 
     
     
         26 . The packaging of  claim 25 , wherein the lid is removable from the base. 
     
     
         27 . The packaging of  claim 23 , wherein the attachment support includes a hook for securing the lid. 
     
     
         28 . The packaging of  claim 25 , wherein the item is supported by the lid in the second configuration.
