Abstract

A dressing for application to skin is provided. The dressing including: first and second portions; an adhesive applied on a surface of the first and second portions for adhering the first and second portions to the skin; an elastic member having one end connected to the first portion and another end connected to the second portion; and a locking member disposed between the first and second portions for restraining the elastic member into a first shape; wherein when the locking member is at least partially removed from between the first and second portions, the elastic member moves in a direction towards an unrestrained second shape.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A dressing for application to skin, the dressing comprising:
first and second portions; an adhesive applied on a surface of the first and second portions for adhering the first and second portions to the skin; an elastic member having one end connected to the first portion and another end connected to the second portion; and a locking member disposed between the first and second portions for restraining the elastic member into a first shape; wherein when the locking member is at least partially removed from between the first and second portions, the elastic member moves in a direction towards an unrestrained second shape.

2 . The dressing of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second portions have an abutment portion against which the locking member is disposed.

3 . The dressing of claim 2 , wherein each of the first and second portions include a projection for creating a partially enclosed space above the elastic member so as to dispose the locking member therein.

4 . The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the first and second portions comprise a series of notches disposed at one or more of an edge of the first and second portions.

5 . The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the locking member comprises two or more locking members, each having a different dimension in the direction.

6 . The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the locking member is formed of a series of locking members connected by a flexible member.

7 . The dressing of claim 6 , wherein the flexible member is one of a string or fabric.

8 . A dressing for application to skin, the dressing comprising:
first and second portions; an adhesive applied on a surface of the first and second portions for adhering the first and second portions to the skin; an elastic portion connected at a first end to the first portion and connected at another end to the second portion; an elastic member associated with the elastic portion for biasing the elastic member in a first shape, the elastic member being formed to have one or more open spaces; and a locking member disposed in the one or more open spaces for restraining the elastic member into the first shape; wherein when the locking member is at least partially removed from the one or more open spaces, the elastic member moves in a direction towards an unrestrained second shape.

9 . The dressing of claim 8 , wherein the elastic member comprises a complex shape having a plurality of open spaces; and
the locking member comprises a plurality of locking members, each of which corresponding to one of the plurality of open spaces.

10 . The dressing of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of locking members are arranged on a common backing.

11 . The dressing of claim 10 , wherein the backing includes at least one portion for facilitating pulling the plurality of locking members from at least a portion of the plurality of open spaces.

12 . The dressing of claim 9 , wherein a first portion of the plurality of locking members are arranged on a first common backing and a second portion of the plurality of locking members are arranged on a second common backing.

13 . The dressing of claim 12 , wherein the first and second backings include at least one portion for facilitating pulling the first and second portion of the plurality of locking members, respectively, from at least a portion of the plurality of open spaces.

14 . The dressing of claim 12 , wherein one of the first and second backings include holes for passage of the plurality of locking members associated with the other of the first and second backings.
