Abstract
A mobile telecommunications device retrieves audio data using a coded medium with coded data. The coded data is encoded in a linear pattern and a two-dimensional pattern on the coded medium. The linear pattern and the two-dimensional pattern encode a medium identifier linked to the audio data, and the two-dimensional pattern also encodes a two-dimensional coordinate grid. The mobile telecommunications device has a first image sensor for sensing the coded data printed in the linear pattern on the coded medium, a second image sensor for sensing the coded data printed in the two-dimensional pattern and, a processor for determining the medium identifier from the coded data printed in a linear pattern and the coded data printed in a two dimensional pattern, and retrieving the audio data using the determined medium identifier.

A mobile telecommunications device for retrieving audio data using a coded medium with coded data, the coded data being encoded in a linear pattern and a two-dimensional pattern on the coded medium, the linear pattern and the two-dimensional pattern encoding a medium identifier linked to the audio data, and the two-dimensional pattern also encoding a two-dimensional coordinate grid, the mobile telecommunications device comprising:
a first image sensor for sensing the coded data printed in the linear pattern on the coded medium; a second image sensor for sensing the coded data printed in the two-dimensional pattern; and, a processor for determining the medium identifier from the coded data printed in a linear pattern and the coded data printed in a two dimensional pattern, and retrieving the audio data using the determined medium identifier.
2 . The mobile telecommunications device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first image sensor and the second image sensor are provided by a single image sensor configured to receive images along two optical paths.

The mobile telecommunications device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the coded data printed in the two-dimensional pattern further encodes a digital signature associated with the medium identifier, and the processor is configured to determine, by sensing at least some of the coded data printed in a two-dimensional pattern using the image sensor, the digital signature and retrieve the audio data only if the digital signature is authentic.
4 . The mobile telecommunications device as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the digital signature includes at least one of: a random number; a secret-key digital signature; and a public-key digital signature.

The mobile telecommunications device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the audio data is associated with a region of the coded medium, and the processor is configured to determine a position of the image sensor relative to the coded medium from the two-dimensional coordinate grid information encoded by the coded data printed in a two-dimensional pattern and retrieve, if the determined position is within the region, the audio data.
6 . The mobile telecommunications device according to claim 1 , wherein the coded data printed in a linear pattern is printed on one face of the coded medium and the coded data printed in a two-dimensional pattern is printed on an opposite face of the coded medium.
7 . The mobile telecommunications device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a media feed path for receiving the coded medium and positioning the linear pattern for sensing.
