Abstract
One example embodiment includes a system for corrugating a metallic tape. The system includes a first gear and a second gear, where the second gear is configured to partially mate with the first gear. The system also includes a turning mechanism, where the turning mechanism is configured to turn the first gear. A metallic tape passing through the partial mating of the first gear with the second gear is corrugated.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for corrugating a metallic tape, the system comprising:
a first gear; a second gear, wherein the second gear is configured to partially mate with the first gear; a turning mechanism, wherein the turning mechanism is configured to turn the first gear; wherein a metallic tape passing through the partial mating of the first gear with the second gear is corrugated; and a cutting mechanism, wherein the cutting mechanism:
is configured to at least partially cut through a backing on the metallic tape, wherein the cut through the backing is parallel to the direction of travel of the tape passing through the partial mating of the first gear with the second gear.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the turning mechanism includes a motor.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the clearance at the partial mating of the first gear and the second gear is between 0 . 01 inches and 0 . 02 inches.
4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the clearance at the partial mating of the first gear and the second gear is approximately 0 . 015 inches.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the cutting mechanism is configured to cut completely through the backing on the metallic tape.
7 . A system for corrugating a metallic tape, the system comprising:
a body; a first gear, wherein the first gear:
is mounted on the body; and
includes an interior portion which is smooth;
a second gear, wherein the second gear:
is mounted on the body;
is configured to partially mate with the first gear; and
includes an interior portion which is smooth, wherein the smooth portion of the first gear and the smooth portion of the second gear are opposite one another;
wherein a metallic tape passing through the partial mating of the first gear with the second gear is corrugated; wherein the metallic tape lacks corrugations where it passes between the smooth portions of the first gear and the second gear; a turning mechanism, wherein the turning mechanism:
is attached to the first gear; and
is configured to turn the first gear; and
a cutting mechanism, wherein the cutting mechanism:
is mounted on the body; and
is configured to at least partially cut through a backing on the metallic tape, wherein the cut in the backing is located within the portion of the metallic tape that lacks corrugations.
8 . The system of claim 7 wherein the cutting mechanism includes a blade.
9 . The system of claim 8 wherein the body includes a slot, wherein the slot is configured to keep the position of the metallic tape constant relative to the blade.
10 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the turning mechanism includes a handle.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the handle is mounted on an arm.
12 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the smooth portion of the first gear is at the midpoint of the first gear.
13 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the circular pitch of the first gear is between 0.1 inches and 0.2 inches.
14 . The system of claim 13 wherein the circular pitch of the first gear is approximately 0.15 inches.
15 . The system of claim 7 further comprising a slicing mechanism, wherein the slicing mechanism is configured to cut the metallic tape along its width.

21 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first gear includes an interior portion which is smooth.
22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the second gear includes an interior portion which is smooth.
23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the smooth portion of the first gear and the smooth portion of the second gear are opposite one another
24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the interior portion of the first gear which is smooth is filled with one of:
cork; rubber; or plastic.
25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the interior portion of the second gear which is smooth is filled with one of:
cork; rubber; or plastic.
