Metagame Translation
Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for providing translation of metagame data to enable game experiences that work well across different client devices while still being appropriate for different characteristics of various incompatible devices. In an exemplary embodiment, metagame state can include data related to information such as a player's profile information, assets, progress, achievements, level reached, friends network, games purchased, devices used, etc. Embodiments of such systems and methods can help reduce a game publisher's time and money spent on product development intended to anticipate, accommodate and implement different characteristics of various incompatible devices.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method, comprising:
receiving a first device-specific saved game state associated with a user; comparing the first device-specific saved game state to a current metagame state; updating the first device-specific saved game state in accordance with the current metagame state; and translating the current metagame state into a second device-specific game state.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a first device-specific saved game state further comprises:
validating a user account; validating a game entitlement associated with the user account; and validating a device entitlement associated with the game entitlement.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first device is distinct from the second device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the metagame state is associated with one game playable on a plurality of distinct devices.
5 . A metagame translation system, comprising:
computer code devices configured to receive a first device-specific saved game state associated with a user; computer code devices configured to compare the first device-specific saved game state to a current metagame state; computer code devices configured to update the first device-specific saved game state in accordance with the current metagame state; and computer code devices configured to translate the current metagame state into a second device-specific game state.
6 . The metagame translation system of claim 5 , wherein computer code devices configured to determine a first device-specific saved game state further comprises:
computer code devices configured to validate a user account; computer code devices configured to validate a game entitlement associated with the user account; and computer code devices configured to validate a device entitlement associated with the game entitlement.
7 . The metagame translation system of claim 5 , wherein the first device is distinct from the second device.
8 . The metagame translation system of claim 5 , wherein the metagame state is associated with one game playable on a plurality of distinct devices.
9 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium with an executable program stored thereon, wherein the program instructs a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:
receiving a first device-specific saved game state associated with a user; comparing the first device-specific saved game state to a current metagame state; updating the first device-specific saved game state in accordance with the current metagame state; and translating the current metagame state into a second device-specific game state.
10 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , the method further comprising:
validating a user account; validating a game entitlement associated with the user account; and validating a device entitlement associated with the game entitlement.
11 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the first device is distinct from the second device.
12 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the metagame state is associated with one game playable on a plurality of distinct devices.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
