Abstract

The present invention provides a new hand-operated system for actuating acceleration and brake pedals in a vehicle. The system comprises main body adapted to be fixedly attached to the vehicle in the vicinity of the driver's hands, a handle connected to the main body wherein the handle is adapted to be moved forwardly and backwardly in order to operate the vehicle; two levers pivotally connected to the main body wherein the levers are engaged with the acceleration and brake pedals through connecting rods; and a cable connecting the lever that actuate the acceleration pedal.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A hand-operated system for actuating an acceleration pedal and a brake pedal in a vehicle, the system comprising:
a main body adapted to be attached to the vehicle; a handle connected to said main body; a first rigid rod which couples a movement of said handle in a first direction to move a brake pedal; and a second rigid rod which couples a movement of said handle in a second direction to move an acceleration pedal.

         2 . A system according to claim 1 , further comprising:
a first lever connected between the handle and the first rigid rod; and a second lever connected between the handle and the second rigid rod.

3 . A system according to claim 2 , wherein said first and second lever are pivotally and directly connected to the handle.

4 . A system according to claim 2 , wherein said first rigid connecting rod is connected to said first lever through an angle joint.

5 . A system according to claim 2 , wherein said second rigid connecting rod is connected to said second lever through an angle joint.

6 . A system according to claim 2 , further comprising pulling means connecting said first lever to said main body.

7 . A system according to claim 6 , wherein said pulling means comprise a cable connecting said first lever to said main body.

8 . A system according to claim 7 , wherein said cable is connected to said seat.

9 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said main body comprises a seat and wherein said seat is provided with a connector configured to be connected to a steering column mount.

10 . A system according to claim 8 , wherein a cable is connected to said seat.

11 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said second rigid rod is provided with a connector adapted to connect the rod to the accelerating pedal.

12 . A system according to claim 1 , Wherein said first rigid rod is provided with a connector adapted to connect the rod to the brake pedal.

13 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said handle is provided in the left-hand side of the system.

14 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said handle is provided in the right-hand side of the system.

15 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said vehicle contains a gear shift and wherein said main body is configured to be connected to said vehicle in the vicinity of said gear shift.

16 . A system according to claim 1 , wherein said first direction and said second direction are opposite directions.

17 . A method of actuating an acceleration pedal and a brake pedal in a vehicle, the method comprising:
first manipulating a handle in a vehicle in order to transfer force to a gas pedal of the vehicle, using a first rigid rod connected to the handle; and then manipulating said handle in order to transfer force to a brake pedal of the vehicle, using a second rigid rod connected to the handle.

18 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein said handle is manipulated using the right hand of a handicapped driver.

19 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein said handle is manipulated using the left hand of a handicapped driver.

20 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein first manipulating said handle in order to transfer force to a gas pedal of the vehicle comprises pulling the handle.

21 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein manipulating said handle in order to transfer force to a brake pedal of the vehicle comprises pushing the handle.

22 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein manipulating said handle in order to transfer force to a brake pedal of the vehicle further comprises releasing the gas pedal.

23 . A method according to claim 17 , wherein providing a handle in a vehicle comprises installing the handle in an ordinary vehicle without confining the convenience of a driver.

24 . A method of adapting a hand operated acceleration and brake system to a vehicle, the method comprising:
installing a bent first rigid rod of the system to follow a tortuous route from the vicinity of the knees of the driver of the vehicle to the brake pedal of the vehicle; and installing a bent second rigid rod of the system to follow a tortuous route from the vicinity of the knees of the driver of the vehicle to the acceleration pedal of the vehicle.

         25 . A method according to claim 24 , further comprising:
bending the first rigid rod of the system to follow a tortuous route from the vicinity of the knees of the driver of the vehicle to the brake pedal of the vehicle; and bending the second rigid rod of the system to follow a tortuous route from the vicinity of the knees of the driver of the vehicle to the acceleration pedal of the vehicle.

26 . A method according to claim 24 , wherein the method further comprises:
engaging the first rigid rod with the brake pedal; and engaging the second rigid rod with the acceleration pedal.
