Abstract
Various embodiments of a wind turbine are disclosed having a support structure with a rotor disposed about the support structure and having first and second scoops. Each of the scoops can have medial and lateral openings, and the medial opening can include a plurality of apertures that remain open during a complete rotation of the rotor.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A vertical axis wind turbine having a windward side and a leeward side depending upon a direction of an oncoming wind, comprising:
a support structure; a rotor coupled to the support structure and having at least first and second blades; wherein each of the first and second blades has a medial opening and a lateral opening; and wherein the medial and lateral openings each remain open during a complete rotation of the rotor.
2 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the first blade further comprises an intermediate opening disposed between the lateral and medial openings, and wherein the intermediate opening remains open during the complete rotation of the rotor.
3 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the medial opening comprises at least 20 apertures.
4 . The wind turbine of claim 3 , wherein the lateral opening comprises at least 20 apertures.
5 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the medial opening is sized and dimensioned such that no more than 20% of the wind impacting the medial opening passes through the medial opening.
6 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the medial opening is sized and dimensioned such that no more than 10% of the wind impacting the medial opening passes through the medial opening.
7 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , further comprising a partition coupled to the first blade, and disposed to separate the medial and lateral openings.
8 . The wind turbine of claim 2 , further comprising first and second partitions coupled to the first blade, and wherein the first and second partitions are disposed to separate the lateral and intermediate openings, and the intermediate and medial openings, respectively.
9 . The wind turbine of claim 8 , wherein the second partition comprises a series of steps configured to upwardly direct wind impacting the steps.
10 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , further comprising:
first and second slats pivotally coupled to, and disposed about, the support structure; wherein the first slat is disposed on the windward side and pivotally configured to be opened by the wind; and wherein the second slat is disposed on the leeward side and pivotally configured to be closed by the wind.
11 . The wind turbine of claim 10 , wherein each of slats are oriented such that the slats are pivotable as a direct function of an airflow.
12 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the support structure is configured to mount on a roof of a residential, commercial, or industrial building.
13 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the support structure comprises at least a portion of a residential, commercial, or industrial building.
14 . The wind turbine of claim 1 , wherein the lateral opening comprises first and second openings.
15 . The wind turbine of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second openings comprises a plurality of apertures.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
