Claims

Abstract

A surgical instrument featuring a combination cauterizing and surgical capture component. The instrument is deployable from a distal end of a lumen to a first position partially exposing a cauterizing loop and having restrained radially deployable members wherein a plurality of cauterizations may be performed with said cauterizing loop in an unobstructed view of a camera or lens. The instrument is deployable to a second position fully translated from the lumen whereafter the plurality of radially positionable members may be released by activation of a release member allowing the biased members to deploy radially around an axis running through the loop.

1 . A surgical apparatus for deployment from a distal end of a catheter having a camera or lens in communication with a display providing remote viewing of procedures, comprising:
 a loop, said loop having a first end opposite a second end;   a control wire engaged at said second end of said loop;   said control wire providing means for translation of said loop within a lumen of said catheter between a first end and said distal end;   a plurality of radially positionable shaped members in operative engagement at a respective first ends, to one of said loop or said control wire, said shaped members formed of insulated or of non conductive material;   each respective said shaped member having a deployed position around a center axis, and having a collapsed position in a stacked configuration against a side surface of said loop;   means to restrain said shaped members in said collapsed position;   means to bias said members from said collapsed position to said deployed position;   said loop and shaped members transnationally positionable by a translation of said control wire, to a first position with a first portion of said loop, adjacent to said first end thereof, deployed from said lumen and with a remainder of said loop, and said means to restrain said shaped members positioned within said lumen;   said loop and shaped members positionable by a said translation of said control wire, to a second position, with said loop and said shaped members still in said collapsed position, fully deployed from said lumen at said distal end of said catheter;   means for release of said means to restrain said shaped members from said collapsed position;   said loop uninsulated and energizable for cauterization on a contact with tissue, in either of said first position or said second position, with said shaped members concurrently in said collapsed position;   said shaped members in said collapsed position during said cauterization enabling a view unobstructed by said shaped members for communication to said remote viewing, during any said cauterization; and   said shaped members translated to said second position, being movable to said deployed position forming said capture component, subsequent to a release of said means to restrain said shaped members in said collapsed position.   
     
     
         2 . The surgical apparatus of  claim 1  wherein said means for release of said shaped members from said collapsed position comprises:
 a release wire said release wire communicating from a control portion at a first end, to a pair of distal ends in operative communication with a respective pair of restraints providing said means to restrain said shaped members in said collapsed position stacked against said loop, and 
 said pair of distal ends of said release wire causing a release of said pair of restraints by a translation of said of said release wire toward said first end of said catheter. 
 
     
     
         3 . The surgical apparatus of  claim 1 , additionally comprising:
 said loop forming a mouth of said capture component.   
     
     
         4 . The surgical apparatus of  claim 2 , additionally comprising:
 said loop forming a mouth of said capture component.   
     
     
         5 . A method of forming a surgical apparatus for deployment from a distal end of a catheter and having a loop operatively engaged to a control wire adapted for translation through a lumen, and having a plurality of radially positionable shaped members, each said member having a collapsed position held adjacent to said loop and in a contact with said loop or an adjacent said member by a means for restraint, and each said member having a deployed position radially spaced around a center axis to define a capture component, comprising:
 forming said planar loop;   engaging said loop to a control wire;   forming said plurality of radially positionable shaped members using memory shape material in a deployed position radially positioned around a center axis extending from said control wire;   rotating said shaped members adjacent to said loop into said collapsed position;   employing a releasable means for restraint to maintain said members adjacent to said loop; and   engaging a release to said releasable means for restraint which when activated allows movement thereof to said deployed position.   
     
     
         6 . A method of employing the surgical apparatus of  claim 5  comprising the steps of:
 positioning said lumen adjacent to tissue in a body requiring cauterization or removal; 
 translating said control wire to translate said loop and said shaped members to said first position; 
 energizing said loop to cauterize or cut said tissue one or a plurality of times; 
 translating said control wire to move said loop and said shaped members to said second position; 
 employing said means to release said means to restrain said shaped members in said collapsed position to release said shaped members to form said a capture component; and 
 employing said capture component to collect tissue removed by said cauterization.
