Composition comprising bioactive amino acids and/or peptides and marine oil in a stable oil-in-water emulsion, and the use of said composition as a functional or therapeutic composition

Abstract

The present invention relates to food supplements. Particularly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising marine oil in a stable oil-in-water emulsion, further comprising at least one specific bioactive amino acid or peptide, or derivatives thereof In addition, the present invention relates to a process for the production of said composition and the use of said composition as a functional or therapeutic composition.

1 . Composition comprising at least one bioactive amino acid and/or peptide or derivative thereof, and marine oil in a stable oil-in-water emulsion. 
     
     
         2 . Composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the at least one bioactive amino acid and/or peptide, or derivatives thereof are selected from the group comprising L-carnosine, glutathione, theanine and taurine or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         3 . Composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the at least one bioactive amino acid and/or peptide, or derivatives thereof are selected from the group comprising precursors of L-carnosine and glutathione, or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         4 . Composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the content of marine oil is about 0.5-15% by weight. 
     
     
         5 . Composition according to  claim 4 , wherein the content of marine oil is about 1.5-7% by weight. 
     
     
         6 . Composition according to  claim 4 , wherein the content of marine oil is about 0.5-7% by weight. 
     
     
         7 . Composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a suitable emulsifier, sweeteners, flavouring agents, antioxidants and preservatives. 
     
     
         8 . Composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising polyunsaturated vegetable oil. 
     
     
         9 . Composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is a drink. 
     
     
         10 . Process for the production of a comprising at least one bioactive amino acid and/or peptide derivative thereof, and marine oil in a stable oil-in-water emulsion, the process comprising the steps of:
 a) adding bioactive amino acids and/or peptides and optionally water soluble additives to a water phase, together with a proportion of an emulsifier,   b) adding the rest of the emulsifier and optionally, oil soluble additives to an oil phase,   c) mixing the oil and water phase to a homogenous emulsion,   d) optionally subjecting the emulsion obtained to pasteurization and/or homogenization processes, and   e) cooling the obtained emulsion and filling clean disposable containers with the obtained emulsion;   
       wherein all steps are performed under strict oxygen control. 
     
     
         11 . Process for the production of a composition comprising at least one bioactive amino acid and/or peptide derivative thereof, and marine oil in a stable oil-in-water emulsion, the process comprising the steps of:
 a) adding a proportion of an emulsifier and optionally water soluble additives to a water phase,   b) adding the rest of the emulsifier and optionally oil soluble additives, to an oil phase,   c) mixing the oil and water phase to a homogenous emulsion,   d) subjecting the emulsion obtained in step (c) to pasteurization and/or homogenization processes,   e) adding bioactive amino acids and/or peptides to the emulsion obtained in step (d), and,   f) cooling the emulsion obtained in step (e) and filling clean disposable containers with the emulsion;   
       wherein all steps are performed under strict oxygen control. 
     
     
         12 . A sealed container containing a composition as claimed in  claim 1 . 
     
     
         13 . Composition according to  claim 1  for use as a therapeutic drink. 
     
     
         14 . Use of a composition according to  claim 1  for the production of a medical preparation for the prophylaxis or treatment of neurological disorders.
