Abstract
A telecommunication system implements a method for providing a targeted on-line advertisement to a user accessing a content provider node of the system. The system further comprises an ad selection node and an user identification node. A user signal indicative of an information request is routed through the system to determine a geographic location of the user and/or a demographic profile of the geographic location. An advertiser corresponding to the geographic location and/or demographic profile is thereafter communicated to the user.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for targeting advertising on a network of computing devices, the method comprising:
receiving, at a server, at least one non-geographic demographic input from at least one advertiser; associating at least one ad with the demographic input; associating at least one geographic region with the demographic input; receiving, at a server, a location of a user accessing a web site; determining whether the location is associated with the geographic region; and serving the ad to the user based on the location determination.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the demographic input comprises at least one selection from a plurality of channels corresponding to web sites with related demographics.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the web site accessed by the user is one of the web sites corresponding to a selected channel.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining at least one web site having a usership corresponding to the demographic input, wherein serving the ad is based on the web site determination.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein associating the at least one geographic region with the demographic input is based on census data.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing a campaign interface, the campaign interface providing voting district areas; receiving at least one voting district area selection input from the campaign interface; and determining a second geographic region associated with the voting district area selection input, wherein serving the ad is based on the second geographic region.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the campaign interface includes at least one map that allows the advertiser to select a geographic portion of the map, and wherein the voting district area selection input comprises a selection of at least one geographic portion of the map.
8 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
broadening the second geographic region, wherein serving the ad is based on broadening the second region.
9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
providing a recommendation to broaden geographical targeting associated with the second geographic region; receiving broaden recommendation confirmation input, wherein broadening the second region is based on the confirmation input.
10 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
receiving a political party input; and determining a third geographic region associated with the political party input, wherein serving the ad is based on all three determined geographic regions.
11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving a geographic region input from the advertiser; wherein serving the ad is based on the geographic region input.
12 . A method for targeting advertising on a network of computing devices, the method comprising:
receiving, at a server, at least one non-geographic demographic input; determining a first geographic region associated with the demographic input; receiving a geographic region input from a user; determining a second geographic region based on the geographic region input; and serving at least one ad based on the first and second geographic regions.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the demographic input comprises at least one selection from a plurality of channels corresponding to web sites with related demographics.
14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
determining at least one web site having a usership corresponding to the demographic input, wherein serving the ad is based on the web site determination.
15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein determining the first geographic region associated with the demographic input is based on census data.
16 . A method for political campaign advertising on a network of computing devices, the method comprising:
providing a political campaign interface, the political campaign interface providing geographic voting district areas; receiving at least one geographic voting district area selection input from the campaign interface; determining a first geographic region associated with the geographic voting district area selection input; receiving at least one non-geographic demographic input; determining a second geographic region associated with the demographic input; and serving at least one ad to a user based on the first and second geographic regions.
17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
determining at least one web site having a usership corresponding to the demographic input, wherein serving the ad is based on the web site determination.
18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
broadening the first geographic region, wherein serving the ad is based on broadening the first geographic region.
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising:
providing a recommendation to broaden geographical targeting associated with the first geographic region; and receiving broaden recommendation confirmation input, wherein broadening the first geographic region is based on the confirmation input.
20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the demographic input comprises at least one selection from a plurality of channels corresponding to web sites with related demographics.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
