Abstract
A cosmetic oil/water emulsion comprising a) 2-ethylhexyl-2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI: Octocrylene), b) 4-(tert.-butyl)-4′-methoxydibenzoyl methane (INCI: Butylmethoxydibenzoyl methane), c) licorice extract or licochalcone A.

16 . A cosmetic O/W emulsion, wherein the emulsion comprises
(a) 2-ethyl-hexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI: octocrylene), (b) 4-(tert-butyl)-4′-methoxydibenzoylmethane (NCI: butyl methoxydibenzoyl methane), and (c) at least one of a licorice extract and licochalcone A.
17 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises (d) 2,4-bis-{[4-(2-ethyl-hexyloxy)-2-hydroxy]-phenyl}-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (INCI: aniso triazine).
18 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion comprises, based on a total weight of the emulsion, from 0.1% to 12% by weight of (a), from 0.1% to 8% by weight of (b), and at least one of from 0.0001% to 0.05% by weight of licorice extract and from 0.0001% to 0.01% by weight of licochalcone A.
19 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion comprises at least 2.1% by weight of (b), based on a total weight of the emulsion.
20 . The emulsion of claim 17 , wherein the emulsion comprises from 0.1% to 5% by weight of (d), based on a total weight of the emulsion.
21 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more of glyceryl stearate citrate, glyceryl stearate SE, stearic acid, polyglyceryl-3 methylglucose distearate, PEG-40 stearate, PEG-100 stearate, potassium cetyl phosphate, and a mixture of cetearyl alcohol+PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil+sodium cetearyl sulfate+glyceryl stearate as an O/W emulsifier.

The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more UV filters selected from phenylene-1,4-bis-(2-benzimidazyl)-3,3′-5,5′-tetrasulfonic acid salts; 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid salts; 1,4-di(2-oxo-10-sulfo-3-bornylidenemethyl)-benzene and salts thereof; 4-(2-oxo-3-bornylidenemethyl)benzenesulfonic acid salts; 2-methyl-5-(2-oxo-3-bornylidenemethyl)sulfonic acid salts; 2,2′-methylene-bis-(6-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)-phenol); 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-methyl-6-[2-methyl-3-[1,3,3,3-tetramethyl-1-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]disiloxanyl]propyl]-phenol; 3-(4-methylbenzylidene)camphor; 3-benzylidene)camphor; ethylhexyl salicylate; terephthalidenedicamphorsulfonic acid; 4-(dimethylamino)-benzoic acid (2-ethylhexyl) ester; 4-(dimethylamino)benzoic acid amyl ester; 4-methoxybenzalmalonic acid di(2-ethylhexyl) ester; 4-methoxycinnamic acid (2-ethylhexyl) ester; 4-methoxycinnamic acid isoamyl ester; 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-4′-methylbenzophenone; 2,2′-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone; 2-(4′-diethylamino-2′-hydoxybenzoyl)-benzoic acid hexyl ester, homomenthyl salicylate; 2-ethylhexyl 2-hydroxybenzoate; dimethicodiethylbenzal malonate; 3-(4-(2,2-bis ethoxycarbonylvinyl)-phenoxy)propenyl)-methoxysiloxane/dimethylsiloxane copolymer; dioctylbutyl-amidotriazone (INCI: diethylhexyl-butamido triazone); 2,4-bis-[5-1(dimethylpropyl)benzoxazol-2-yl-(4-phenyl)-imino]-6-(2-ethylhexyl)-imino-1,3,5-triazine; 4,4′,4″-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyltriimino)-tris-benzoic acid tris(2-ethylhexyl ester) (INCI: ethylhexyl triazone); 2,4-bis-(4′-di-neopentylaminobenzalmalonate)-6-(4″-butylaminobenzoate)-s-triazine, titanium dioxide; zinc oxide; trisbiphenyl-triazine 4-dicyanomethylene-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine N-(ethyloxysulfate ester salt) mono-sodium salt.
23 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises ethanol.
24 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more antioxidants.
25 . The emulsion of claim 24 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more of tocopherol, tocopherol acetate, and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol.
26 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more polymers.
27 . The emulsion of claim 26 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more polymers selected from acrylate/C10-C30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymers, polyacrylates, tapioca starch, and xanthan gum.
28 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion further comprises one or more oil components selected from butylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, myristyl myristate, octyldodecanol, mineral oil, and silicone oil.
29 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion comprises a licorice extract.
30 . The emulsion of claim 16 , wherein the emulsion comprises licochalcone A.
31 . A process for the preparation of a cosmetic O/W emulsion, wherein the process comprises
(i) adding a heated oil phase comprising 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, 4-(tert-butyl)-4′-methoxydibenzoylmethane and, optionally, one or more further oil-soluble UV filters to a hot aqueous phase, (ii) homogenizing the oil and water phases to obtain an O/W emulsion, (iii) cooling the emulsion, and (iv) adding at least one of licorice extract dissolved in ethanol and licochalcone A dissolved in ethanol to the cooled emulsion with stirring.
32 . The process of claim 31 , wherein one or more perfume substances and one or more preservatives are further added in (iv).
33 . The process of claim 31 , wherein the heated oil phase of (i) further comprises 2,4-bis-[4-(2-ethyl-hexyloxy)-2-hydroxy]-phenyl}-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine.
34 . The emulsion obtained by the process of claim 31 .
35 . A method of increasing the storage stability of a cosmetic O/W emulsion that comprises one or both of a licorice extract and licochalcone A, wherein the method comprises including in the emulsion a combination of (a) 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI: octocrylene) and (b) 4-(tert-butyl)-4′-methoxydibenzoylmethane (INCI: butyl methoxydibenzoyl methane) in an amount that is sufficient to increase the storage stability of the emulsion.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
