Abstract

An apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a tube having a first end and a second end. The second end prevents access to an inner wall of the tube. Further, the apparatus includes a valve operably connected to the first end of the tube and configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a guiding member inserted through the valve. The guiding member positions the tube in an umbilical vessel of an umbilical cord prior to occlusion of the umbilical vessel so that the tube remains within the umbilical vessel after occlusion of the umbilical vessel.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus comprising:
a tube having a first end and a second end, the second end preventing access to an inner wall of the tube; and a valve operably connected to the first end of the tube and configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a guiding member inserted through the valve, the guiding member positioning the tube in an umbilical vessel of an umbilical cord prior to occlusion of the umbilical vessel so that the tube remains within the umbilical vessel after occlusion of the umbilical vessel.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the umbilical vessel is an umbilical vein.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the umbilical vessel is an umbilical artery.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a surgical device.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a drug delivery device.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to provide access to organs, cavities and vessels of the body for catheterization.

7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to provide drainage of organs, cavities and vessels of the body.

8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to an imaging device.

9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a Global Positioning System device.

10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a homing device.

11 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the valve is also configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to a microchip.

12 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the tube includes a plurality of microfenestrations that provides delivery of a substance into an abdomen.

13 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second end is composed of a material that is penetrable by a syringe.

14 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second end is composed of a material that is penetrable by a surgical device.

15 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second end is composed of a material that is expandable so that a surgical device penetrates through the second end.

         16 . A kit comprising:
a tube having a first end and a second end, the second end preventing access to an inner wall of the tube; a guiding member; and a valve operably connected to the first end of the tube and configured to provide access to the inner wall of the tube to the guiding member inserted through the valve, the guiding member positioning the tube in an umbilical vessel of an umbilical cord prior to occlusion of the umbilical vessel so that the tube remains within the umbilical vessel after occlusion of the umbilical vessel.

17 . The kit of claim 16 , wherein the umbilical vessel is an umbilical vein.

18 . The kit of claim 16 , wherein the umbilical vessel is an umbilical artery.

19 . The kit of claim 16 , wherein the tube includes a plurality of microfenestrations that provides delivery of a substance into an abdomen.

         20 . An apparatus comprising:
a tube having a first end and a second end, the tube being positioned in an umbilical vessel of an umbilical cord prior to occlusion of the umbilical vessel so that the tube remains within the umbilical vessel after occlusion of the umbilical vessel; a first barrier located at the first end that prevents access to an inner wall of the tube; and a second barrier located at the second end that prevents access to an inner wall of the tube.
