Systems and methods for historical information management

Abstract

A networked computer system is provided for collecting and displaying historical content comprising a plurality of digital objects associated with a historical period or event. The computer system is comprised of one or more networked servers for processing the historical content. The servers are configured to access a database of host historical content input by an operator and user historical content input by a user, and display the historical content. One or more software applications running on the servers facilitate collection, integration and display of historical content. The software applications provide a template accessible to a user via a computer in communication with the network. The template is configured to allow the user to input the user historical content and relate a portion of the host historical content to create a user website integrating the user historical content with a portion of the host historical content.

         19 . A system for collecting and displaying content comprising one or more digital objects, the system comprising:
 one or more servers for processing the content, wherein the one or more servers are in communication with a network;   a repository of collection content input by an operator, wherein the one or more servers are configured to access and display the collection content;   a repository of user content input by a user, wherein the one more servers are configured to access and display the user content, wherein at least a portion of the user content has associated metadata, and wherein one or more software applications are configured to translate at least a portion of the metadata associated with the one or more digital objects using a web service to facilitate the transmission of collection content between software applications;   one or more software applications running on the one or more servers for facilitating at least one of collection, integration and display of collection content and user content, wherein the one or more software applications provides a template accessible to a user via a computer in communication with the network, wherein the template is configured to allow the user to input the user content and to permit the user to access at least a portion of the collection content and associate at least a portion of the collection content with a user web page; and   wherein the one or more software applications are further configured to search for relevant collection content related to data input by the user through the template, and to display to the user an indication of the availability of relevant collection content related to the data input by the user.   
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein the digital objects comprise at least one of images, video and audio objects. 
     
     
         21 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein at least a portion of the collection content is associated with data indicating a historical subject. 
     
     
         22 . The system of  claim 19 , further comprising one or more host computers located at a host facility remotely located from the one or more servers, wherein the one or more servers communicates with the host computers via the network. 
     
     
         23 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein the software is further configured to permit the user to restrict access to the user web page to other specified users designated by the user. 
     
     
         24 . A server system comprising one or more servers configured to be connected to a network for collecting and displaying collection content comprising a plurality of digital objects, the server system comprising:
 a storage device for storing collection content input by an operator and user content input by a user, wherein at least a portion of the collection content has associated metadata;   one or more software applications running on the one or more servers for facilitating collection, integration and display of collection content, wherein the one or more software applications provides a template accessible to each of the plurality of users via a computer in communication with the network, wherein the template is configured to allow the user to input user content and relate a portion of the collection content to the user content input by the user to create a user web page integrating the input user content with a portion of the collection content,   wherein the one or more software applications are further configured to translate at least a portion of the metadata associated with the digital objects using a web service to facilitate the transmission of content between software applications and wherein the one or more software applications is configured to permit the user to access at least a portion of the collection content and associate at least a portion of the collection content with a user web page.   
     
     
         25 . The server system of  claim 24 , wherein the template is further configured to allow the user to input user content and wherein the one or more software applications are further configured to search for relevant collection content related to the inputted user and to associate at least a portion of the collection content with the user web page. 
     
     
         26 . The system of  claim 24 , wherein the digital objects comprise at least one of images, video and audio objects. 
     
     
         27 . The system of  claim 24 , wherein at least a portion of the collection content is associated with data indicating a historical subject associated with each separate item of content. 
     
     
         28 . The system of  claim 24 , further comprising one or more host computers located at a host facility remotely located from the one or more servers, wherein the one or more servers communicates with the host computers via the network. 
     
     
         29 . A method for associating user historical data with collection content comprising:
 storing collection content in a first data repository;   collecting and displaying collection content comprising a plurality of digital images, video and audio objects that are associated with a historical subject using one or more servers connected to a network;   association at least a portion of the collection content with metadata indicating the historical subject associated with each separate item of collection content;   translating a portion of the metadata associated with the images, video and audio objects using a web service;   providing a template accessible to a user via a computer in communication with the network for inputting user historical content;   storing the user historical content in a second data repository;   integrating the collection content with the user historical content using one or more software applications running on the one or more servers; and   searching for additional collection content related to the user historical data.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising permitting the user to purchase a right to access at least a portion of the collection content. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising, using the template to create a user web page. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising associating at least a portion of the relevant collection content with the user web page.
