Abstract

In a rear-projection TV system in which the image is generated by an optical engine and projected through a mirror towards a diffusion plate screen, picture quality adjustment is undertaken at the optical block level to reduce the distance between the adjustment device and screen and thereby improve production throughput in the dark room in which the adjustments are made.

         9 . A TV adjustment system, comprising:
 a dark room in which a TV including a screen can be disposed to perform adjustments thereon;   at least one adjustment lens couplable to the TV for making adjustments and decouplable from the TV prior to vending the TV;   at least one feedback signal generator for generating a feedback signal; and   an adjustment computer receiving the feedback signal and responsive thereto adjusting the TV to establish projection uniformity on the screen, the feedback signal generator being positionable closer to the TV in the dark room owing to the adjustment lens than the feedback signal generator otherwise would be without the adjustment lens.   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the TV is a rear projection TV including plural microdisplays. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein an image projected through the adjustment lens covers less than 30% of a screen of the TV. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the adjustment lens has a focal length of less than two hundred fifty millimeters. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the adjustment lens is an aspheric positive meniscus lens. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the adjustment lens has one aspheric surface and an opposed spherical surface. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the adjustment lens is made of low dispersion polymer.
