Claims

Abstract

To solve degradation with time of a light emitting element by a new method. When the potential of an electrode of a monitor pixel is sampled and fed back to a light emitting pixel, degradation with time of a light emitting element can be corrected. In addition, when a writing period is divided into a plurality of periods during which a plurality of rows are selected, a gray scale can be expressed by a weighted light emitting period. That is to say, a light emitting device of the invention has a plurality of monitoring light emitting elements, a monitor line for monitoring changes in the potentials of electrodes of the plurality of light emitting elements, and a means for preventing, when any one of the plurality of monitoring light emitting elements is short-circuited, a current from flowing to the short-circuited monitoring light emitting element through the monitor line.

         1 . An electronic paper comprising:
 a plurality of pixels, each pixel comprising a transistor and a display element;   a driver circuit being configured to perform a plurality of writing operations to each pixel;   wherein a gray scale is determined by the number of writing operation.   
     
     
         2 . An electronic paper comprising:
 a plurality of pixels, each pixel comprising a transistor comprising a-InGaZnO and a display element;   a driver circuit being configured to perform a plurality of writing operations to each pixel;   wherein a gray scale is determined by the number of writing operation.   
     
     
         3 . An electronic paper comprising:
 a plurality of pixels, each pixel comprising a transistor having a multi-gate structure,   and a display element;   a driver circuit being configured to perform a plurality of writing operations to each pixel;   wherein a gray scale is determined by the number of writing operation.   
     
     
         4 . An electronic paper comprising:
 a plurality of pixels, each pixel comprising a transistor having a multi-gate structure,   and comprising a-InGaZnO, and a display element;   a driver circuit being configured to perform a plurality of writing operations to each pixel;   wherein a gray scale is determined by the number of writing operation.   
     
     
         5 . An electronic paper according to  claim 1 , wherein the display element is an
 electronic ink.   
     
     
         6 . An electronic paper according to  claim 2 , wherein the display element is an
 electronic ink.
