Reinforced packaging container and method for making the same

Abstract

A packaging container for displaying and/or housing products that includes a first tray that includes a chamber defined by one or more walls and at least one raised area extending around and separate from the walls of the chamber. The tray may be substantially opaque to display graphics and/or to prevent viewing of the contents and may be seamless. A cover member is attachable to the bottom of the first tray to cover the chamber and its contents. The cover member may comprise, among other things, a second tray or a blank or sheet of material.

1 . A packaging container comprising:
 a housing comprising:   a substantially opaque tray comprising a main chamber defined by one or more walls, at least one raised area extending around and separate from the one or more walls of the main chamber and a bottom; and   a cover member to cover the main chamber.   
     
     
         2 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein at least one of the substantially opaque tray and cover is made from a substantially tear-resistant material. 
     
     
         3 . The packaging container of  claim 2  wherein the substantial tear resistant material is a SBS board coated with a polyethylene material. 
     
     
         4 . The packaging container of  claim 2  wherein the substantial tear resistant material is a woven material. 
     
     
         5 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the at least one raised area is a flute. 
     
     
         6 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the substantially opaque tray and cover are made from a printable material. 
     
     
         7 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the tray is made from a paper product. 
     
     
         8 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the cover is a second tray. 
     
     
         9 . The packaging container of  claim 8  wherein the second tray is opaque. 
     
     
         10 . The packaging container of  claim 8  wherein the second tray comprises a main chamber defined by one or more walls, at least one raised area extending around and separate from the one or more walls of the main chamber and a bottom. 
     
     
         11 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the cover is sheet of material. 
     
     
         12 . The packaging container of  claim 1  wherein the first tray is made from a paper board material selected from the group consisting of an SBS board, a recycled board and board stock material.
