Exterior siding mounting bracket assembly and method of assembly

Abstract

An exterior siding mounting bracket assembly used in conjunction with siding placed over sheathing of an exterior wall has a base member having a mounting flange fastened to the sheathing and a water diversion fitting also fastened to the sheathing and flashed in-part beneath the lower end of the mounting flange. A wall arrangement projects laterally outward from the mounting flange and away from the sheathing. A trim member of the bracket assembly has a partition arrangement that preferably snap fits to the wall arrangement and a trim flange constructed and arranged to substantially cover the water diversion fitting and the cut edges of the siding that cover in-part the mounting flange. Preferably, the water diversion fitting has an elongated drip edge spaced outwardly from the siding to shed water collected from generally cascaded from the mounting flange and outward from the siding.

         18 . A mounting bracket assembly for an exterior wall having a substructure covered by siding, the mounting bracket assembly comprising:
 a base member having a mounting flange presenting a peripheral edge for disposition at least in part beneath the siding and a panel spaced inwardly from the peripheral edge;   the base member having a front surface for disposition adjacent the siding and a rear surface opposite the front surface for disposition adjacent the substructure;   a water diversion fitting abutting the base member and including an elongated shelf disposed below the base member and extending to a lower drip ledge for channeling water to an exterior side of the siding;   a plurality of ribs extending from the front surface of the mounting flange and spaced from each other along the front surface, each rib including an outer end and an inner end each extending from the front surface with the inner end disposed below the outer end so that each rib slopes downwardly along the front surface from the outer end to the inner end for channeling water toward the water diversion fitting; and   a trim member selectively coupled to the base member adjacent the front surface and spaced from the mounting flange for concealing an edge of the siding between the trim member and the mounting flange;   the base member including a wall arrangement and the trim member including a partition arrangement that conforms in shape to the wall arrangement and engages the wall arrangement between the wall arrangement and the ribs wherein the inner end of each rib is spaced from the partition arrangement for allowing water drainage between the inner end and the partition arrangement.   
     
     
         19 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 18  wherein the outer end of each rib is disposed adjacent the peripheral edge and the inner end of each rib is disposed adjacent the panel. 
     
     
         20 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 18  wherein the flange includes a left portion disposed on one side of the panel, a right portion disposed on an opposite side of the panel, a top portion extending between the left portion and the right portion above the panel, and a bottom portion extending between the left portion and the right portion below the panel. 
     
     
         21 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 20  wherein the ribs are disposed on the left portion and the right portion. 
     
     
         22 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 21  wherein the ribs on the left portion are oppositely sloped relative to the ribs on the right portion. 
     
     
         23 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 22  further comprising additional ribs on the top portion and the bottom portion so that the base member is mountable in one of two positions. 
     
     
         24 . A mounting bracket assembly for an exterior wall having a substructure covered by siding, the mounting bracket assembly comprising:
 a base member having a mounting flange for attachment to the substructure at least in part beneath the siding, the base member having a front surface for disposition adjacent the siding and a rear surface opposite the front surface for disposition adjacent the substructure;   a water diversion fitting having an upper flashing segment abutting the base member and an elongated shelf extending from the upper flashing segment below the base member, the elongated shelf extending transversely to the upper flashing segment to a lower drip ledge spaced from the upper flashing segment for channeling water to an exterior side of the siding;   a plurality of ribs extending from the front surface of the mounting flange and spaced from each other along the front surface, each rib including an outer end and an inner end each extending from the front surface with the inner end disposed below the outer end so that each rib slopes downwardly along the front surface from the outer end to the inner end for channeling water toward the water diversion fitting; and   a trim member selectively coupled to the base member adjacent the front surface and spaced from the mounting flange for concealing an edge of the siding between the trim member and the mounting flange.   
     
     
         25 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 24  wherein the mounting flange presents a peripheral edge and the base member includes a panel spaced inwardly from the peripheral edge. 
     
     
         26 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 25  wherein the outer end of each rib is disposed adjacent the peripheral edge and the inner end of each rib is disposed adjacent the panel. 
     
     
         27 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 25  wherein the inner end of each rib is spaced from the panel for allowing water drainage between the inner end and the panel. 
     
     
         28 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 25  wherein the flange includes a left portion disposed on one side of the panel, a right portion disposed on an opposite side of the panel, a top portion extending between the left portion and the right portion above the panel, and a bottom portion extending between the left portion and the right portion below the panel. 
     
     
         29 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 28  wherein the ribs are disposed on the left portion and the right portion. 
     
     
         30 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 29  wherein the ribs on the left portion are oppositely sloped relative to the ribs on the right portion. 
     
     
         31 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 29  further comprising additional ribs on the top portion and the bottom portion so that the base member is mountable in one of two positions. 
     
     
         32 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 24  wherein the base member includes a wall arrangement and the trim member includes a partition arrangement that conforms in shape to the wall arrangement and engages the wall arrangement between the wall arrangement and the ribs. 
     
     
         33 . The mounting bracket assembly as set forth in  claim 32  wherein the inner end of each rib is spaced from the partition arrangement for allowing water drainage between the inner end and the partition arrangement.
