Abstract
The invention relates to the use of plasma membrane calcium ATPase (PMCA) inhibitors for inhibiting sperm mobility to achieve a contraceptive effect. The invention further relates to contraceptive agents comprising one or more PMCA inhibitors.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of achieving contraception comprising:
administering a composition comprising an inhibitor that specifically binds to a plasma membrane calcium ATPase 4 (PMCA4) isoform in sperm to effectively suppress sperm mobility.
2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises an intracellular-acting inhibitor or an extracellular-acting inhibitor or a combination thereof.
3 . The method according to claim 2 , wherein the composition comprises one or more inhibitors selected from the group consisting of a 5-carboxyeosindiacetate succinimidyl ester, a 6-carboxyeosindiacetate succinimidyl ester, an eosin, a fluorescein, Caloxin-2A1 and spermin.
4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein administering the composition is carried out orally, parenterally or as a coating on a mechanical contraceptive, or in the form of a cream, a gel, or an oil.
5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein administering the composition is performed as a single contraceptive dose or as a repeated contraceptive dose.
6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to a mammal.
7 . The method according to claim 6 , wherein the mammal is a human being.
8 . A contraceptive formulation comprising the composition of claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
9 . The contraceptive formulation according to claim 8 , wherein the contraceptive composition is administered with a conventional contraceptive.
10 . The contraceptive formulation according to claim 9 , wherein the conventional contraceptive is a condom, a mechanical contraceptive device, or a spermicidal preparation.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
