Abstract

A dental implant, components, and kit are provided. The implant can comprise a body, attachment means for attaching the implant to bone, and a recess. The recess can be disposed within the body and open towards a proximal end thereof. The recess can comprise a proximally-disposed receiving chamber and a distally-disposed threaded chamber. The receiving chamber can comprise an interlock chamber, which can be disposed at a distal end of the receiving chamber and have a polygonal cross-section. The implant can be multi-functional such that components for various dental prostheses and procedures can be provided having portions that can, for example, engage the interlock chamber of the implant, mate with the receiving chamber of the implant, and/or mate with the proximal end the implant for supporting the prosthesis and/or facilitating the procedure.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A dental implant comprising:
a body comprising a proximal end, a distal end, an outer surface extending between the proximal end and the distal end, the body having a longitudinal axis and the proximal end defining a top surface that is substantially flat and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the implant; and an open socket formed in the top surface, the open socket comprising at least one surface extending from the top surface that tapers inwardly towards the longitudinal axis of the implant; wherein the top surface of the implant has an outer periphery and an inner periphery defined by an interface between the top surface and the open socket and wherein the distance between the outer periphery and the inner periphery is equal to or greater than at least 0.2 millimeters.

2 . The dental implant of claim 1 , wherein the at least one surface that tapers inwardly forms a substantially conical portion that extends from the top surface of the implant.

3 . The dental implant of claim 2 , wherein the substantially conical portion defines a conical half angle with respect to the longitudinal axis between about 10 degrees and about 20 degrees.

4 . The dental implant of claim 2 , wherein the substantially conical portion defines a conical half angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of about 12 degrees.

5 . The dental implant as in claim 2 , wherein the conical portion has a length measured from the top surface in a direction along the longitudinal axis that is equal to or greater than at least about 1 mm.

6 . The dental implant of claim 2 , further comprising an interlock recess that includes at least one anti-rotational feature positioned below the substantially conical portion, and a threaded portion that includes a thread positioned below the interlock recess.

7 . The dental implant of claim 6 , wherein the interlock recess comprises at least one flat side.

8 . The dental implant of claim 6 , wherein the ratio of the length of the conical portion and the length of the interlock recess is about 1:1.

9 . The dental implant of claim 6 , further comprising substantially a cylindrical portion positioned between the interlock portion and the threaded portion of the open socket.

10 . The dental implant of claim 1 , wherein the outer surface of the implant is provided with a surface treated to enhance tissue growth, the treated surface extending onto the top surface of the implant.

11 . The dental implant as in claim 10 , wherein the treated surface comprises a crystalline and phosphate enriched titanium oxide microstructured surface.

12 . The dental implant as in claim 1 , the distance between the outer periphery and the inner periphery is about 0.25 millimeters.

         13 . A dental component comprising:
a body comprising a proximal end, a distal end, an outer surface extending between the proximal end and the distal end, the body having a longitudinal axis and the proximal end defining a top surface; and an open socket formed in the top surface, the open socket comprising a substantially conical portion extending from the top surface, an interlock portion comprising at least one flat side positioned below the substantially conical portion, and a threaded portion comprising a thread positioned below the interlock region; and wherein the ratio of the length of the conical portion and the length of the interlock portion is about 1:1.

14 . The dental component of claim 13 , wherein at least a portion of the one flat side extends into the substantially conical portion.

15 . The dental component of claim 14 , wherein a portion of at least one flat side extends into at least ½ of the length of the substantially conical section

16 . The dental component of claim 13 , wherein the at least one flat side of the interlock portion forms at least one of a square recess, a hexagonal recess, and an octagonal recess.

17 . The dental component of claim 13 , wherein the substantially conical portion defines a conical half angle between about 10 degrees and about 20 degrees.

18 . The dental component as in claim 13 , wherein the top surface of the implant has an outer periphery and an inner periphery defined by the open socket and wherein the distance between the outer periphery and the inner periphery equal to or greater than at least 0.2 millimeters

19 . The dental component as in claim 13 , wherein the top surface of the implant has an outer periphery and an inner periphery defined by the open socket and wherein the distance between the outer periphery and the inner periphery is about 0.25 millimeters
