Organizer/Storage System that Mounts on Top of a Computer Workstation

Abstract

An organizer/storage system that mounts on top of a computer workstation for storage of office supplies, devices, or files that makes efficient use of the available space above, or on one or both sides of the computer workstation. The organizer/storage system includes a top platform and side panels, and may include back and bottom panels with interlocking closure systems, and slide-in shelves with optional drawers. Optional cutouts in the side panels allow airflow to cool the computer, and optional cutouts in the back panels permit connection of conduit or electrical wires. When adaptive fasteners are used for attachment to the computer workstation, the height of the organizer/storage system may be adjusted. Exterior side shelves may be attached to one or both of the side panels to permit storage of a greater variety of objects. The organizer/storage system may be made from a single sheet of suitable material.

1 . An apparatus for storing supplies, devices, files or other items mountable on a computer workstation having a right side, a left side, and a top, the apparatus comprising:
 a top platform, oriented horizontally and configured to sit directly on top of a computer workstation, having a right lateral edge, a left lateral edge and a width approximately as wide as the width of the computer workstation;   first and second exterior side panels, oriented vertically, mutually parallel and spaced apart at a distance approximately equal to the width of the top platform, each having an upper edge, the upper edge of the first side panel attached to the top platform at the right lateral edge and the upper edge of the second side panel attached to the top platform at the left lateral edge; and   one or more exterior side shelves, each exterior side shelf attached and cantilevered at a first edge to the first or second exterior side panel.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , comprising two or more exterior side shelves, wherein at least two of the two or more exterior side shelves are arranged in a vertically stacked and spaced apart relationship. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more exterior side shelves are arranged so that there is at least one exterior side shelf attached to each of the first and second exterior side panels. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 3 , comprising three exterior side shelves attached to either the first or second exterior side panel, and two exterior side shelves attached to the other of the first and second exterior side panels. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more exterior side shelves are all attached to either the first or second exterior side panel. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein the other of the first and second exterior side panels is configured to terminate at or near the top of the computer workstation. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 5 , comprising three exterior side shelves. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more exterior side shelves has a length equal to a length of the exterior side panel to which it is attached. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , comprising at least three exterior side shelves having a first distance between an adjacent two shelves of the at least three exterior side shelves and a second distance between another adjacent two shelves of the at least three exterior side shelves, wherein the first and second distances are different. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein each of the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise one or more rigid materials and/or mesh. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise wire mesh. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise sheet metal. 
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise plastic. 
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise acrylic. 
     
     
         15 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the top platform, the first and second exterior side panels, and the one or more exterior side shelves comprise fiberglass. 
     
     
         16 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of the top platform comprises a non-slip material. 
     
     
         17 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of insulator pads or spacers configured to engage the computer workstation. 
     
     
         18 . The apparatus of  claim 17 , wherein the plurality of insulator pads or spacers comprise double-sided adhesive pads configured to attach the apparatus to the computer workstation. 
     
     
         19 . The apparatus of  claim 17 , wherein the plurality of insulator pads or spacers comprise adaptive fasteners. 
     
     
         20 . The apparatus of  claim 19 , wherein the adaptive fasteners comprise hook and loop fasteners.
