Claims

Abstract

A portable barrier includes a pedestal assembly and a cover assembly. The pedestal assembly including (i) a plurality of legs that are movable with respect to each other, the plurality of legs includes a first lateral leg having a first free leg end portion and a second lateral leg having a second free leg end portion, and (ii) a first limiter connected to both the first lateral leg and the second lateral leg. The cover assembly includes a cover assembly including (i) a plurality of arms that are movable with respect to each other, the plurality of arms includes a first lateral arm having a first free arm end portion and a second lateral arm having a second free arm end portion, and (ii) a covering connected to both the first lateral arm and the second lateral arm. The portable barrier is configured to be relatively quick and simple to deploy for use and collapse for subsequent transportation and storage thereof.

1 . A portable barrier, comprising:
 a pedestal assembly including (i) a plurality of legs that are movable with respect to each other, said plurality of legs includes a first lateral leg having a first free leg end portion and a second lateral leg having a second free leg end portion, and (ii) a first limiter extending between said first free leg end portion and said second free leg end portion;   a cover assembly including (i) a plurality of arms that are movable with respect to each other, said plurality of arms includes a first lateral arm having a first free arm end portion and a second lateral arm having a second free arm end portion, and (ii) a covering connected to both said first lateral arm and said second lateral arm;   wherein said portable barrier is configured to be moved between a protection mode and a storage mode,   wherein said first limiter is configured to limit movement of said first free leg end portion and said second free leg end portion away from each other during movement of said portable barrier from said storage mode to said protection mode,   wherein a vertical plane intersects a horizontal plane in a perpendicular manner to define a first quadrant, a second quadrant, a third quadrant, and a fourth quadrant,   wherein said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on a horizontal surface, (i) said first free leg end portion is positioned in said first quadrant, (ii) said second free leg end portion is positioned in said second quadrant, (iii) said first free arm end portion is positioned in said third quadrant, (iv) said second free arm end portion is positioned in said fourth quadrant, (v) said first limiter extends from said first quadrant to said second quadrant through said vertical plane and is spaced apart from each of third quadrant and said fourth quadrant, and (vi) said covering extends from said third quadrant to said fourth quadrant through said vertical plane and is spaced apart from each of first quadrant and said second quadrant, and   wherein, said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said storage mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface, each of said first free leg end portion, said second free leg end portion, said first free arm end portion, and said second free arm end portion is (i) positioned in said first quadrant, and (ii) spaced apart from each of said second quadrant, said third quadrant, and said fourth quadrant.   
     
     
         2 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , further comprising a junction assembly, wherein:
 said first lateral leg further has a first opposite leg end portion coupled to said junction assembly,   said second lateral leg further has a second opposite leg end portion coupled to said junction assembly,   said first lateral arm further has a first opposite arm end portion coupled to said junction assembly, and   said second lateral arm further has a second opposite arm end portion coupled to said junction assembly.   
     
     
         3 . The portable barrier of  claim 2 , wherein said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said storage mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface, said junction assembly is (i) partially positioned in said first quadrant, (ii) partially positioned in said second quadrant, (iii) partially positioned in said third quadrant, and (vi) partially positioned in said fourth quadrant. 
     
     
         4 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first lateral arm pivots about a first axis during movement of said portable barrier from said protection mode to said storage mode, and   said vertical plane intersects said horizontal plane to define a line that lies on said first axis.   
     
     
         5 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first lateral leg pivots about a second axis during movement of said portable barrier from said protection mode to said storage mode, and   said second axis is spaced apart from said first axis.   
     
     
         6 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein said cover assembly is supported above said pedestal assembly when both (i) said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode, and (ii) said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface. 
     
     
         7 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first limiter includes a flooring connected between said first lateral leg and said second lateral leg, and   said flooring is configured to limit movement of said first free leg end portion and said second free leg end portion away from each other during movement of said portable barrier from said storage mode to said protection mode.   
     
     
         8 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first limiter includes a first strap connected between said first lateral leg and said second lateral leg, and   said first strap is configured to limit movement of said first free leg end portion and said second free leg end portion away from each other during movement of said portable barrier from said storage mode to said protection mode.   
     
     
         9 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first lateral arm pivots about a first axis during movement of said portable barrier from said protection mode to said storage mode, and   said second lateral arm pivots about said first axis during movement of said portable barrier between said protection mode and said storage mode.   
     
     
         10 . The portable barrier of  claim 9 , wherein:
 said plurality of arms further includes an intermediate arm that pivots about said first axis during movement of said portable barrier between said protection mode and said storage mode.   
     
     
         11 . The portable barrier of  claim 10 , wherein:
 said covering includes a first cover segment and a second cover segment,   said first cover segment extends between said first lateral arm and said intermediate arm when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode, and   said second cover segment extends between said intermediate arm and said second lateral arm when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode.   
     
     
         12 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a second limiter extending between said first lateral arm and said first lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode.   
     
     
         13 . The portable barrier of  claim 12 , wherein:
 said second limiter includes a first side screen extending between said first lateral arm and said first lateral leg.   
     
     
         14 . The portable barrier of  claim 13 , further comprising a third limiter extending from said second lateral arm generally toward said second lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode, said third limiter includes a second side screen extending from said second lateral arm generally toward said second lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode. 
     
     
         15 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said covering is configured to limit movement of said first free arm end portion and said second free arm end portion away from each other during movement of said portable barrier from said storage mode to said protection mode.   
     
     
         16 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said plurality of arms further includes an intermediate arm and a supplemental arm,   said second lateral arm being interposed between said intermediate arm and said supplemental arm.   
     
     
         17 . The portable barrier of  claim 16 , wherein said supplemental arm is juxtaposed to said second lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode. 
     
     
         18 . The portable barrier of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 a second limiter extending between said first lateral arm and said first lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode, and   a third limiter extending between said second lateral arm and said supplemental arm when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode.   
     
     
         19 . The portable barrier of  claim 18 , wherein:
 said second limiter includes a first side screen extending between said first lateral arm and said first lateral leg when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode, and   said third limiter includes a second side screen extending between said second lateral arm and said supplemental arm when said portable barrier is positioned in said protection mode.   
     
     
         20 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein, said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said storage mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface, said horizontal surface extends from said first quadrant to said second quadrant through said vertical plane. 
     
     
         21 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said first lateral arm pivots about a first axis during movement of said portable barrier from said protection mode to said storage mode,   said vertical plane intersects said horizontal plane to define a line that lies on said first axis,   said first lateral leg pivots about a second axis during movement of said portable barrier from said protection mode to said storage mode,   said second axis is spaced apart from said first axis, and   said second axis is positioned in said first quadrant and is spaced apart from each of said second quadrant, said third quadrant, and said fourth quadrant.   
     
     
         22 . The portable barrier of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said storage mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface, (i) said first limiter is positioned in said first quadrant, and (ii) spaced apart from each of said second quadrant, said third quadrant, and said fourth quadrant.   
     
     
         23 . The portable barrier of  claim 22 , wherein:
 said portable barrier is further configured so that, when said vertical plane and said horizontal plane are superimposed on said portable barrier while said portable barrier is positioned in said storage mode and said pedestal assembly is supported on said horizontal surface, (i) said covering is positioned in said first quadrant, and (ii) spaced apart from each of said second quadrant, said third quadrant, and said fourth quadrant.
