Method for interactive learning and training

Abstract

Provided is a method comprising delivering a video of an event to a learner that includes a still menu that effectuates and simulates a pause; recording a video of an action by the learner in response to the event; presenting to the learner the video of the action by the learner; presenting to the learner a video showing a preferred action by a master in response to the event; and recording at least one additional action by the learner. Also provided is a method for teaching a learner how to respond to an event comprising allowing the learner to choose among recording an action in response to a video of an event, viewing one or more recorded actions of a master, and comparing the two videos; wherein recording may be chosen before and after either or both viewing and reviewing, and the recordings are viewable as videos on a monitor.

1 . A training method comprising:
 delivering a video of an event to a learner via a monitor, the video of an event including a still menu, the still menu effectuating and simulating a pause in the delivering;   recording, after the learner has viewed the video of an event and during the simulated pause, a video of an action by the learner in response to the event;   presenting to the learner the video of the action by the learner; and   presenting to the learner a video showing a preferred action by a master in response to the event.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the delivering and the presenting comprise playing a series of motion menus and still menus. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the delivering, the presenting, and the recording are capable of being carried out simultaneously. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the delivering and the presenting each comprise playing a motion menu in its entirety. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1  further comprising storing video recordings. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5  wherein storing comprises automatically associating a stored recording with the event to which the recording relates. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1  wherein recording comprises recording a plurality of different, learner-controlled videos associated with an event. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the video of an event includes a plurality of events in a discontinuous sequence. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8  wherein the plurality of events is related to a common training goal. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1  further comprising optionally repeating the delivering, recording, and presenting as desired by the learner. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1  further comprising allowing the learner to review the video of the action in comparison to the video showing the preferred action by the master. 
     
     
         12 . A method for teaching a learner how to respond to an event comprising:
 allowing the learner, in response to viewing a video of the event, to choose among:
 recording one or more actions of the learner in response to the event, viewing one or more recorded actions of a master in response to the event, and reviewing the one or more recorded actions of the learner in comparison to the one or more recorded actions of a master; 
   wherein the event, the one or more recorded actions of the learner, and the one or more recorded actions of a master are viewable as videos on a monitor, the videos including at least one still menu capable of effecting the choosing, the at least one still menu simulating a pause.   
     
     
         13 . An authoring method comprising:
 recording at least one situation comprising at least one event;   further recording at least one master preferred action in response to the at least one event;   creating a program comprising motion menus and still menus where the at least one situation, the at least one event, and the at least one master preferred action are placed on the motion menus and still menus; and   arranging the program and recordings so that the program carries out the following:
 displaying the at least one recorded situation on a video monitor to a learner; 
 automatically inserting a still menu after completing the play of a motion menu in order to simulate a pause in the displaying, the still menu comprising a still menu background; 
 recording at least one action by the learner in response to the at least one event; 
 reviewing the at least one action recorded by the learner; and 
 presenting the learner with the at least one master preferred action. 
   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 14  wherein the recording and the reviewing the learner's action is repeated during the simulated pause as desired by the learner for multiple versions of learner actions. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14  wherein the arranging further includes arranging the program and recordings so that the reviewing and the presenting are capable of being carried out simultaneously. 
     
     
         16 . A method comprising:
 recording at least one situation comprising a plurality of events carried out by a plurality of situation participants and masters;   after occurrence of an event, further recording one or more actions by the plurality of participants and masters in response to the event;   creating a program where the situation, plurality of events, and one or more actions are viewable via media player; and   arranging the program and recordings so that the program carries out the following:
 delivering the at least one situation to one or more learners via a media player on a computer monitor, the situation comprising a plurality of events carried out by a plurality of situation participants and masters; 
 after occurrence of an event, recording one or more actions by the one or more learners in response to the event; 
 reviewing the one or more recorded actions by the one or more learners; and 
 presenting to the one or more learners one or more preferred actions by one or more masters in response to the event.
