Health supplements containing phyto-oestrogens, analogues or metabolites thereof

Abstract

Compositions enriched with natural phyto-oestrogens or analogues thereof selected from Genistein, Daidzein, Formononetin and Biochanin A. These may be used as food additives, tablets or capsules for promoting health in cases of cancer, pre-menstrual syndrome, menopause or hypercholesterolaemia.

         21 . A health supplement comprising an aqueous organic solvent extract from red clover leaf in an amount from about 20 mg to 200 mg per dosage unit, wherein the supplement is in the form of a tablet or capsule. 
     
     
         22 . The supplement according to  claim 21  which also comprises at least one dietary suitable excipient, diluent, carrier or food. 
     
     
         23 . The supplement according to  claim 21  wherein said extract comprises biochanin A:formononetin, in a ratio of from about 1:2 to 2:1. 
     
     
         24 . The supplement according to  claim 21 , wherein the amount is 50 to 150 mg per dosage unit. 
     
     
         25 . The supplement according to  claim 21 , wherein the amount is 60 mg to 100 mg per dosage unit. 
     
     
         26 . The supplement according to  claim 21 , further comprising at least one of a coumestan, lignan, or a flavone. 
     
     
         27 . The supplement according to  claim 21 , wherein the extract comprises biochanin A, formononetin, and/or their glycosides.
