Abstract

The present invention provides a method, apparatus, processor-readable medium and signals for building a presentation by receiving user input identifying multimedia content to be included in a presentation and copying multimedia content identified by such user-input from a multimedia source to memory, for access by a presentation application. Copying may involve copying multimedia content from an application while the application is using the multimedia content. There is also provided a method, apparatus, processor-readable medium and signals for providing a presentation by identifying multimedia content previously identified by a user as to be included in the presentation and accessing and presenting at least some of the multimedia content previously identified by the user.

         33 . A method of building a presentation, the method comprising:
 using a web browser, accessing a web page containing multimedia content, the multimedia content including at least one tag; and   using a presentation applet registered with the web browser:
 automatically identifying multimedia content on the page by parsing the page using the at least one tag; 
 displaying an identifier for the page containing the multimedia content and a window for previewing at least some of the identified multimedia content on the page; 
 selecting at least some of the multimedia content identified on the page while the page is being accessed by the web browser; and
 copying into at least one presentation folder: 
 at least some of the multimedia content based on the at least one tag; and 
 the identifier for the page containing the multimedia content; 
 
   wherein the presentation applet is configured to use information stored in the at least one presentation folder to build the presentation.   
     
     
         34 . The method as defined in  claim 33 , further comprising downloading the presentation applet for the web browser and registering the applet with the web browser before using the presentation applet to copy information into the presentation folder. 
     
     
         35 . The method as defined in  claim 34 , wherein the applet is a plug-in. 
     
     
         36 . The method as defined in  claim 33 , comprising associating an identifier with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         37 . The method as defined in  claim 36 , wherein associating an identifier comprises associating a uniform resource locator with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         38 . The method as defined in  claim 33 , further comprising associating user-definable notes with at least some of the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         39 . The method as defined in  claim 38 , further comprising:
 using the web browser, displaying a window for entry of user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content on the page; and   using the presentation applet, copying any user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content on the page into the at least one presentation folder.   
     
     
         40 . The method as defined in  claim 33 , further comprising producing a multimedia content record accessible by the presentation applet, the multimedia content record comprising a link to the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         41 . The method as defined in  claim 40 , further comprising
 producing the multimedia content record such that it comprises
 an identifier associated with the multimedia content having the tag; and 
 a memory index field corresponding to the selected multimedia content. 
   
     
     
         42 . The method as defined in  claim 41 , further comprising producing the multimedia content record such that it comprises a notes field for user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content. 
     
     
         43 . A non-transitory signal readable by a processor, the signal comprising code for an applet operable in conjunction with a web browser to direct the processor to build a presentation, the web browser being operable to access a web page containing multimedia content, the multimedia content including at least one tag, the code comprising:
 instructions executable to automatically identify multimedia content on the page by parsing the page using the at least one tag;   instructions executable to display an identifier for the page containing the multimedia content and a window for previewing at least some of the identified multimedia content on the page;   instructions executable to select at least some of the multimedia content identified on the page while the page is being accessed by the web browser; and   instructions executable to copy into at least one presentation folder:
 at least some of the multimedia content based on the at least one tag; 
 the identifier for the page containing the multimedia content; and 
   instructions executable to use information stored in the at least one presentation folder to build the presentation.   
     
     
         44 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 43 , further comprising code operable to register the applet with the web browser before using the presentation applet to copy information into the presentation folder. 
     
     
         45 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 44 , wherein the applet is a plug-in. 
     
     
         46 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 43 , comprising code operable to associate an identifier with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         47 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 46 , wherein the code is operable to associate an identifier with the multimedia content comprises code operable to associate a uniform resource locator with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         48 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 43 , further comprising code operable to associate user-definable notes with at least some of the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         49 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 48 , further comprising code operable to copy any user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content into the at least one presentation folder. 
     
     
         50 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 43 , further comprising code operable to produce a multimedia content record accessible by the presentation applet, the multimedia content record comprising a link to the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         51 . The non-transitory signal as defined in  claim 50 , further comprising code operable to produce the multimedia content record such that it comprises
 an identifier associated with the multimedia content having the tag; and   a memory index field corresponding to the selected multimedia content.   
     
     
         52 . A processor-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor, the instructions comprising code for an applet operable in conjunction with a web browser to direct the processor to build a presentation, the web browser being operable to access a web page containing multimedia content, the multimedia content including at least one tag, the code comprising:
 instructions executable to automatically identify multimedia content on the page by parsing the page using the at least one tag;   instructions executable to display an identifier for the page containing the multimedia content and a window for previewing at least some of the identified multimedia content on the page;   instructions executable to select at least some of the multimedia content identified on the page while the page is being accessed by the web browser; and   instructions executable to copy into at least one presentation folder:
 at least some of the multimedia content based on the at least one tag; 
 the identifier for the page containing the multimedia content; and 
   instructions executable to use information stored in the at least one presentation folder to build the presentation.   
     
     
         53 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 52 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to register the applet with the web browser before using the presentation applet to copy information into the presentation folder. 
     
     
         54 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 53 , wherein the applet is a plug-in. 
     
     
         55 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 52 , wherein the code comprises code operable to associate an identifier with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         56 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 55 , wherein the code comprises code operable to associate an identifier with the multimedia content comprises code operable to associate a uniform resource locator with the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         57 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 52 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to associate user-definable notes with at least some of the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         58 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 57 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to copy any user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content into the at least one presentation folder. 
     
     
         59 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 52 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to produce a multimedia content record accessible by the presentation applet, the multimedia content record comprising a link to the multimedia content having the tag. 
     
     
         60 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 59 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to produce the multimedia content record such that it comprises
 an identifier associated with the multimedia content having the tag; and   a memory index field corresponding to the selected multimedia content.   
     
     
         61 . The processor-readable medium as defined in  claim 60 , wherein the code further comprises code operable to produce the multimedia content record such that it comprises a notes field for user-definable notes associated with at least some of the identified multimedia content.
