Claims

Abstract

A lead system for domesticated animals is provided having a lock capable of securing the collar and the handle ends simultaneously to prevent theft of the animal. The lead system comprises a leash having a handle at one end and a collar at the opposing end from the handle and a lock for simultaneously fastening the handle to the leash at one end of the leash and the collar to the leash at the other end so that the animal can be secured to an immovable object. Using the present invention, an animal can be protected from theft without the user having to remove the lead from the dog to engage the lock at the collar or handle ends or requiring the engagement of two or more locks.

1 . A lead system for a domesticated animal that simultaneously locks at the collar end and at the handle end to prevent theft, comprising:
 1) a leash having a handle at one end and a collar at the opposing end from the handle;   2) a lock capable of simultaneously securing the handle at one end of the leash and the collar at the opposing end of the leash to enable the animal to be secured to an immovable object.   
     
     
         2 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the lock is a mechanical lock. 
     
     
         3 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the lock is electronic. 
     
     
         4 . The lead system of  claim 1  having both a mechanical lock and an electronic lock. 
     
     
         5 . The lead system of  claim 2  having more than 1 mechanical lock. 
     
     
         6 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the size of the handle is adjustable. 
     
     
         7 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the size of the collar is adjustable. 
     
     
         8 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein one lock is located within a collar housing and a second lock is located within a handle housing and both locks are simultaneously activated. 
     
     
         9 . The lead system of  claim 8 , wherein activation of a lock located in the handle housing results in activation of a linear activated solenoid lock located in the collar housing. 
     
     
         10 . The lead system of  claim 9 , wherein the power for the solenoid is provided by one or more batteries. 
     
     
         11 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the leash has one or more cables extending through the interior of the leash. 
     
     
         12 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein one end of the leash extends through a collar housing, forms a loop and then connects back into a fastener in the collar housing to form a collar and the other end of the leash extends through a handle housing, forms a loop and then connects back into a fastener in the handle housing to form a handle. 
     
     
         13 . A lead system for a domesticated animal that simultaneously locks at the collar end and at the handle end to prevent theft, comprising:
 1) a leash having a handle at one end and a collar at the opposing end from the handle;   2) a lock located within a handle housing and a second lock located within a collar housing which are simultaneously activated to secure a fastener in the handle housing and a fastener in the collar housing so that the leash cannot be opened.   
     
     
         14 . A lead system for a domesticated animal that simultaneously locks at the collar end and at the handle end to prevent theft, comprising:
 1) a leash having a handle and a handle housing at one end and a collar and a collar housing at the opposing end from the handle;   
       wherein activation of a mechanical lock located in the handle housing locks a handle connector at the handle end of the leash to a handle fastener located in the handle housing and sends a current powered by a battery located in the handle housing through a wire located in the interior of the leash to a collar electrical contact located on a collar connector at the collar end of the leash and then to a collar fastener located in the collar housing to which the collar connector is attached and then to a solenoid lock located within the collar housing which locks the collar connector to the collar fastener. 
     
     
         15 . The lead system of  claim 14 , wherein the leash also comprises a cable extending though the interior of the leash. 
     
     
         16 . The lead system of  claim 14 , wherein the handle housing includes a housing lever for adjusting the circumference of the collar and the collar housing includes a collar lever for adjusting the circumference of the collar. 
     
     
         17 . The lead system of  claim 16  wherein the leash is held in place in the handle housing by a handle clamp and wherein activation of the housing lever releases the handle clamp, allowing the circumference of the handle to be adjusted and the leash is held in place in the collar housing by a collar clamp and wherein activation of the collar lever releases the collar clamp, allowing the circumference of the collar to be adjusted. 
     
     
         18 . The lead system of  claim 17 , wherein the lock also secures the handle lever and the collar lever. 
     
     
         19 . The lead system of  claim 1 , wherein the leash is retractable to increase or decrease the length of the leash.
