Abstract
Disclosed is a lubricant composition for use in association with a device involving metal-to-metal contact of moving parts, the composition comprising (a) a base stock comprising at least one low viscosity poly-alpha-olefin; (b) a viscosity improver comprising at least one high viscosity poly-alpha-olefin; and (c) a performance additive comprising at least one compound effective to improve at least one property of the lubricant and/or the performance of the equipment in which the lubricant is to be used.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A lubricant composition for use in lubricating a device involving metal-to-metal contact of moving parts, the composition comprising:
(a) a basestock comprising at least one low viscosity poly-alpha-olefin (PAO); (b) a viscosity improver comprising at least one high viscosity poly-alpha-olefin (PAO); and (c) a performance additive comprising at least one compound effective to improve at least one property of the lubricant composition and/or the performance of the equipment in which the lubricant is to be used.
2 . The lubricant composition of claim 1 wherein said basestock comprises at least one PAO having a viscosity of not greater than about 12 centistokes (cSt).
3 . The lubricant composition of claim 1 , wherein said basestock further comprises an ester oil.
4 . The lubricant composition of claim 1 wherein said viscosity improver comprises a PAO having a viscosity of greater than about 40 centistokes (cSt).
5 . The lubricant composition of claim 2 wherein said viscosity improver comprises a PAO having a viscosity of greater than about 40 centistokes (cSt).
6 . The composition of claim 1 , which, when contacting moving metal parts, provides a horsepower loss reduction of at least about 3%.
7 . A lubricant composition comprising:
(a) a basestock comprising at least one PAO having a viscosity of about 12 centistokes or less, (b) a viscosity improver comprising at least one PAO having a viscosity of about 40 to about 1000 centistokes, and (c) a performance additive comprising at least one compound effective to improve at least one property of the lubricant composition and/or the performance of the equipment in which the lubricant is to be used.
8 . The composition of claim 7 , which, when contacting moving metal parts, provides a horsepower loss reduction of at least about 3%.
9 . An axle fluid comprising the composition of claim 1 .
10 . An axle fluid comprising the composition of claim 7 .

The lubricant composition of claim 1 , wherein basestock (a) is present in about 10 to about 90% by weight, based on the composition, viscosity improver (b) is present in about 2 to about 70% by weight, based on the composition, and performance additive (c) is present in about 2 to about 30% by weight, based on the composition.

The lubricant composition of claim 1 , wherein basestock (a) is present in about 15 to about 60% by weight, based on the composition, viscosity improver (b) is present in about 5 to about 60% by weight, based on the composition, and performance additive (c) is present in about 5 to about 15% by weight, based on the composition.

The lubricant composition of claim 7 , wherein basestock (a) is present in about 10 to about 90% by weight, based on the composition, viscosity improver (b) is present in about 2 to about 70% by weight, based on the composition, and performance additive (c) is present in about 2 to about 30% by weight, based on the composition.

The lubricant composition of claim 7 , wherein basestock (a) is present in about 15 to about 60% by weight, based on the composition, viscosity improver (b) is present in about 5 to about 60% by weight, based on the composition, and performance additive (c) is present in about 5 to about 15% by weight, based on the composition.
15 . The lubricant composition of claim 7 , wherein said basestock further comprises an ester oil.
16 . The lubricant composition of claim 3 , wherein said ester oil comprises at least one adipate ester.
17 . The lubricant composition of claim 16 , wherein said adipate ester is selected from the group consisting of di-isodecyl adipate and di-tridecyl adipate.
18 . The lubricant composition of claim 3 , wherein said ester oil consists of one or more adipate esters selected from the group consisting of di-isodecyl adipate and di-tridecyl adipate, and is present in 2-30% by weight, based on the lubricant composition.
19 . The lubricant composition of claim 15 , wherein said ester oil comprises at least one adipate ester.
20 . The lubricant composition of claim 15 , wherein said ester oil consists of one or more adipate esters selected from the group consisting of di-isodecyl adipate and di-tridecyl adipate, and is present in 2-30% by weight, based on the lubricant composition.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
