Computerized article customization system and method for use thereof

Abstract

The present invention is a method for soliciting orders for customized apparel. The apparel can be appendage apparel, such as footwear, gloves, or head gear, or non-appendage apparel such as jackets. The present method includes providing an order form accessible through at least one computer by one or more users. The present method further includes providing one or more possible design parameters, requesting the user to customize the apparel by entering at least one of the parameters on the order form. The user submits the order form through the computer and receives apparel according to the order form. The parameters may include size, material, model, style, color, material treatment, or personalization.

         27 . A method for ordering customized right and left shoes through the internet, comprising the steps of:
 providing a graphical user interface through the internet for soliciting orders for customized shoes;   providing at least one model selection, wherein the model selection comprises a shoe comprising a sole and an upper, wherein the upper comprises an upper outer layer and a secondary piece of material between the front and rear of the shoe;   providing a first set of design parameters comprising a first material for the upper outer layer material and a second material for the secondary piece of material;   submitting the first set of design parameters;   providing a second set of design parameters, wherein the second set of design parameters comprises indicia for the right shoe, left shoe, or both shoes;   submitting the second set of design parameters;   measuring a third set of design parameters, wherein the third set of design parameters comprises size of a customer's foot;   submitting the third set of design parameters;   providing a custom design based on the model selection and first, second, and third design parameters;   transmitting the custom design to a manufacturer's computer network and preparing customized shoes according to the custom design; and   transmitting the customized shoes.   
     
     
         28 . The method according to  claim 27 , wherein the shoe further comprises a cleat type, sole material, and cushioning. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the step of measuring a third set of design parameters further comprises measuring a first length and a first width for a right shoe and a second length and a second width for a left shoe. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the first and second lengths are the same. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the first and second lengths are different. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the first and second widths are the same.

         34 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the step of providing a second set of design parameters further comprises providing a plurality of logos, a plurality of monograms, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         35 . A method for ordering customized shoes through the internet, comprising the steps of:
 providing a graphical user interface through the internet for soliciting orders for customized shoes;   providing at least one shoe model for selection by a customer, wherein the at least one shoe model comprises a sole and an upper, and wherein the upper comprises a first outer layer and a second outer layer disposed on at least a portion of the first outer layer;   providing a first set of design parameters, wherein the first set of design parameters comprises a first material for the first outer layer and a second material for the second outer layer;   submitting the first set of design parameters;   providing a second set of design parameters, wherein the second set of design parameters comprises indicia for the at least one shoe model;   submitting the second set of design parameters;   measuring a third set of design parameters, wherein the third set of design parameters comprises size of shoe;   submitting the third set of design parameters;   providing a custom design based on the shoe model selection and first, second, and third design parameters;   transmitting the custom design to a manufacturer's computer network and preparing customized shoes according to the custom design; and   transmitting the customized shoes.   
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 35 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises providing a first plurality of indicia for a right shoe and a second plurality of indicia for a left shoe.

         38 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein the first and second plurality of indicia are different. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises selecting a first indicia for the right shoe and a second indicia for the left shoe, and wherein the first and second indicia are the same. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises selecting a first indicia for the right shoe and a second indicia for the left shoe, and wherein the first and second indicia are different. 
     
     
         41 . The method according to  claim 35 , further comprises:
 providing a fourth set of design parameters comprising cleat type, sole material, and cushioning;   submitting the fourth set of design parameters; and   providing the custom design based on the shoe model selection and first, second, third, and fourth design parameters;   
     
     
         42 . A method for ordering customized shoes through the internet, comprising the steps of:
 providing a graphical user interface accessible through the internet via a handheld computer or cellular phone for soliciting orders for customized shoes;   providing at least one shoe model for selection by a customer, wherein the at least one shoe model comprises a sole and an upper, and wherein the upper comprises a first outer layer and a second outer layer disposed on at least a portion of the first outer layer;   providing a first set of design parameters, wherein the first set of design parameters comprises a first material for the first outer layer and a second material for the second outer layer;   submitting the first set of design parameters;   providing a second set of design parameters, wherein the second set of design parameters comprises indicia for the at least one shoe model;   submitting the second set of design parameters;   measuring a third set of design parameters, wherein the third set of design parameters comprises size of shoe;   submitting the third set of design parameters;   providing a custom design based on the shoe model selection and first, second, and third design parameters;   transmitting the custom design to a manufacturer's computer network and preparing customized shoes according to the custom design; and   transmitting the customized shoes.   
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 42 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises providing a first plurality of indicia for a right shoe and a second plurality of indicia for the left shoe.

The method of  claim 43 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises selecting a first indicia from the first plurality of indicia for the right shoe and a second indicia from the second plurality of indicia for the left shoe, and wherein the first and second indicia are the same.

The method of  claim 43 , wherein the step of providing the second set of design parameters further comprises selecting a first indicia from the first plurality of indicia for the right shoe and a second indicia from the second plurality of indicia for the left shoe, and wherein the first and second indicia are the different. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 42 , further comprising:
 providing a fourth set of design parameters comprising cleat type, sole material, and cushioning;   submitting the fourth set of design parameters; and   providing the custom design based on the shoe model selection and first, second, third, and fourth design parameters;
