Ring and method for wearing

Abstract

A jewelry ring and associated method includes a shank, and a cross member having ornamental elements which is received by the shank. The shank has two upwardly directed slots which accept the cross member and allow it to slide upward toward the ends of the shank. When the ring is worn the finger holds the cross member in the slots of the shank. The cross member includes ornamental elements which rotate around a rod. End members on the rod retain the ornamental elements, and prevent the rod from sliding transversely through the slots in the shank.

         2 . A ring for a finger, comprising:
 a shank having a first side, an opposite second side, and a base which connects said first side and said second side;   said first side having a first slot, and said second side having a second slot;   a cross member which is removably connectable to said shank;   said cross member removably insertable into said first and second slots and slidably movable within said slots away from said base;   said first slot having an open end which comprises a first mouth through which said cross member is removably insertable, and an opposite closed end which comprises a first terminus;   said second slot having an open end which comprises a second mouth through which said cross member is removably insertable, and an opposite closed end which comprises a second terminus;   said first side having an edge, said first mouth disposed in said edge of said first side between said first terminus and said base;   said second side having an edge, said second mouth disposed in said edge of said second side between said second terminus and said base;   said first side having a first end, and said second side having an opposite second end, said first and second ends being disposed on an opposite side of said first and second slots from said base;   said first terminus disposed between said first mouth and said first end, and said second terminus disposed between said second mouth and said second end;   said cross member having a first end and an opposite second end;   said first end insertable into said first mouth of said first slot and movable within said first slot toward said first terminus;   said second end simultaneously insertable into said second mouth of said second slot and movable with said second slot toward said second terminus;   when the finger is inserted into said ring, the finger (1) urges said cross member away from said base, (2) retains said cross member in said first and second slots, and (3) holds said cross member and said shank together,   during insertion into said shank, said cross member moving away from said edge of said first side and said edge of said second side;   when said cross member passes said first and second mouths, said cross member is not moving toward said base; and,   said first mouth and said second mouth being open when the finger is inserted into the ring.

         4 . The ring according to  claim 2 , further including:
 said first and second slots being curved.

 at least one ornament connected to said rod.

 said cross member slidably interchangeable in said first and second slots with other cross members to change the look of said ring.

         11 . A method for wearing a ring on a finger, comprising:
 (a) providing ring components including:
 a shank having a first side, an opposite second side, and a base connecting said first side and said second side, said first side having a first slot and said second side having a second slot; and, 
 a cross member removably insertable into said first and second slots and slidably movable within said slots away from said base; 
   (b) inserting said cross member into said first and second slots;   (c) slidably moving said cross member away from said base; and,   (d) inserting the finger between said first and second sides and between said base and said cross member, wherein the finger retains said cross member in said first and second slots.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , further including:
 in step (a), said cross member having a first end and an opposite second end, said first end insertable into said first slot, and said second end insertable into said second slot; and,   in step (b), inserting said first and second ends of said cross member into said first and second slots respectively.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , further including:
 in step (a), said cross member including a rod having two opposite end members; and,   in step (b), placing said rod into said first and second slots so that said end members reside outside said first and second sides.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 11 , further including:
 in step (a), said cross member including a rod to which is connected at least one rotatable ornament; and,   during step (d), said ornament rolling onto the finger.
