Abstract

A composition for stabilizing organic polymers comprising a sterically hindered phenol produced by reacting p-cresol and dicyclopentadiene to produce a precursor and alkylating the precursor with isobutylene, and a tertiary amine oxide.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A stabilized polymer composition comprising:
 (a) at least one organic polymer or copolymer; (b) a sterically hindered phenol having the formula:

wherein n is an integer ranging from 0 to 10; and
         (c) a tertiary amine oxide oxide having the formula:
   R 1 R 2 R 3 N→O

wherein R 1 is a methyl group and R 2 and R 3 can be the same or different and each is an alkyl group having from 14 to 24 carbon atoms.

2 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the sterically hindered phenol is present in an amount between about 20 and about 95% by weight of the mixture of (b) and (c).

3 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the combination of components (b) and (c) is present in an amount between 0.01 and 0.5% by weight of the overall polymer composition.

4 . The composition of claim 2 wherein the combination of components (b) and (c) is present in an amount between 0.01 and 0.5% by weight of the overall polymer composition.

5 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a thermoplastic organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyurethanes, polyalkylene terephthalates, polyketones, polysulfones, polyimides, polyphenylene ethers, styrenic polymers, polycarbonates, acrylic polymers, polyamides, polyacetals, halide containing polymers, polyolefin homopolymers and polyolefin copolymers.

6 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is selected from the group consisting of polyphenylene ether/styrenic resin blends, polyvinyl chloride/ABS, methacrylonitrile/ABS, and α-methylstyrene/ABS, polyester/ABS, polycarbonate/ABS.

7 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a thermoplastic organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyphenylene ethers and styrenic polymers.

8 . The composition of claim 2 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a thermoplastic organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyphenylene ethers and styrenic polymers.

9 . The composition of claim 3 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a thermoplastic organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyphenylene ethers and styrenic polymers.

10 . The composition of claim 4 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a thermoplastic organic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyphenylene ethers and styrenic polymers.

11 . The composition of claim 7 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a polyolefin.

12 . The composition of claim 8 wherein the at least one organic polymer or copolymer is a polyolefin.
