Dibenzothiazepine Derivatives and Use Thereof

Abstract

Compounds the following formula: wherein Z is as described in the specification, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, compositions comprising the same, and methods of treating bipolar disorder, an anxiety disorder, a mood disorder or schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder with said compounds.

1 . A compound of Formula I: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein Z is H, C(═O)—R 1 , C(═O)OR 1  or C(R 1 )—NHC(═O)R 2 , wherein R 1  and R 2  are each independently at each occurrence alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or heterocycloalkyl. 
     
     
         2 . A compound according to  claim 1  wherein Z is H, that is 2-fluoro-11-(piperazin-1-yl)dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         3 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, according to  claim 2 , and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
         4 . A method of treating a psychiatric disorder comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, according to  claim 2 . 
     
     
         5 . The method according to  claim 4  wherein the psychiatric disorder is bipolar disorder, an anxiety disorder, a mood disorder or schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder. 
     
     
         6 . The method according to  claim 4  wherein the psychiatric disorder is bipolar disorder. 
     
     
         7 . The method according to  claim 5  wherein the psychiatric disorder is schizophrenia.

         12 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, according to  claim 1  and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
         13 . A method of treating a psychiatric disorder comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 12 . 
     
     
         14 . The method according to  claim 12  wherein the psychiatric disorder is bipolar disorder, an anxiety disorder, a mood disorder or schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder. 
     
     
         15 . The method according to  claim 14  wherein the psychiatric disorder is bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
