Abstract

A method involves identifying a leak location in a cable television system using a detection system, calculating a distance between the leak location and a plurality of shapes or points contained in map data to identify the nearest shape or point, and providing a piece of information corresponding to the nearest shape or point. The piece of information may be a street address or a device.

1 . A computer-executable method for identifying a piece of information corresponding to radio frequency (RF) leak information in a cable television system, the method comprising:
 identifying a leak location in the cable television system using a detection system;   calculating a distance between the leak location and a plurality of shapes contained in map data to identify the nearest shape; and   providing the piece of information corresponding to the nearest shape.   
     
     
         2 . The computer-executable method of  claim 1 , wherein the providing includes configuring the piece of information to include a street address or device within the cable television system. 
     
     
         3 . The computer-executable method of  claim 2 , wherein the device includes a tap or amplifier. 
     
     
         4 . The computer-executable method of  claim 3 , wherein the calculating includes configuring the plurality of shapes to include a plurality of polygons. 
     
     
         5 . The computer-executable method of  claim 4 , further comprising generating a leakage schematic and work order that includes the leak location and street address or device corresponding to the nearest polygon. 
     
     
         6 . The computer-executable method of  claim 5 , wherein the nearest polygon includes lot lines of the street address. 
     
     
         7 . The computer-executable method of  claim 6 , further comprising converting the plurality of polygons contained in map data with a geographical converter, wherein the geographical converter converts the plurality of polygons contained in map data from a flat Cartesian coordinate environment to a spherical Global Positioning System (GPS) environment. 
     
     
         8 . The computer-executable method of  claim 6 , further comprising converting the leak location with a geographical converter, wherein the geographical converter converts leak location from a spherical GPS format to a flat Cartesian coordinate format. 
     
     
         9 . A computer-executable method for identifying a piece of information corresponding to radio frequency (RF) leak information in a cable television system, the method comprising:
 identifying a leak location in the cable television system using a detection system;   calculating a distance between the leak location and a plurality of points contained in map data to identify the closest point; and   providing the piece of information corresponding to the closest point.   
     
     
         10 . The computer-executable method of  claim 9 , wherein the providing includes configuring the piece of information to include a street address or device within the cable television system. 
     
     
         11 . The computer-executable method of  claim 10 , wherein the device includes a tap or amplifier. 
     
     
         12 . The computer-executable method of  claim 11 , further comprising generating a leakage schematic and work order that includes the leak location and the street address or device corresponding to the closest point. 
     
     
         13 . The computer-executable method of  claim 12 , further comprising converting the plurality of points in map data with a geographical converter, wherein the geographical converter converts the plurality of points in map data from a flat Cartesian coordinate format to a spherical GPS format. 
     
     
         14 . The computer-executable method of  claim 12 , further comprising converting the leak location with a geographical converter, wherein the geographical converter converts leak location from a spherical GPS format to a flat Cartesian coordinate format.
